🕊️ Mientras nos preparamos para celebrar Pentecostés este domingo, recordamos el gran regalo del Espíritu Santo derramado sobre la Iglesia. Pentecostés no solo marca la plenitud de la Pascua, sino también el comienzo de la misión de la Iglesia: llevar el Evangelio a todo el mundo. Los invitamos a descubrir el significado y la belleza de esta celebración tan especial.

🇺🇸 As we prepare to celebrate Pentecost this Sunday, we are reminded of the powerful gift of the Holy Spirit poured out upon the Church. Pentecost is not only the fulfillment of Easter, but also the beginning of the Church’s mission to bring the Gospel to the world. Come and discover the meaning and beauty of this sacred celebration.

Pentecost, celebrated fifty days after Easter, has its roots in the tradition of the people of Israel. Originally, it was an agricultural feast of thanksgiving for the harvest and the first fruits of the land. Over time, the Jewish people began to commemorate on this date God’s covenant with Israel on Mount Sinai, an event that took place after the Exodus from Egypt.

For Christians, Pentecost reaches its fulfillment with the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles gathered in Jerusalem (Acts 2). The signs of wind and fire recall the great manifestations of God in the Old Testament and reveal the living presence of the Holy Spirit. The miracle of tongues, understood by people from different lands and nations, shows that the Church is born with a universal mission: to proclaim the Gospel to all humanity.

The Catholic Church recognizes and celebrates Pentecost as the culmination of Christ’s Passover and the visible birth of the Church. Just as humanity was divided by languages at Babel, at Pentecost the Holy Spirit once again gathers the peoples together in the unity of faith and love. Since then, the Spirit continues to guide, sanctify, and strengthen the Church in her mission of evangelization until the end of time.
