from Archbishop Thomas Wenski on the Surgery and Diagnosis of Pope Leo XIV
Our prayers are with Pope Leo XIV as he recovers from his recent surgery. We pray that the surgery successfully removed the cancerous node from his lung that was discovered and that he will recover completely from this health incident.
We entrust our Holy Father to the loving care of God, asking the Lord to strengthen him, guide his medical team, and grant him healing and a swift recovery.
I invite all the faithful of the Archdiocese of Miami and all people of good will to unite in prayer for Pope Leo, and for all those who struggle with life-threatening illnesses. We ask the intercession of Mary. May her maternal love be a source of continued comfort to the Holy Father.
I had the opportunity to meet and speak with the Pope on Monday, October 5. And though at that time, I did not know (and perhaps even he didn’t know) that he would be having surgery this week, I told him that the faithful of Miami pray for him daily.
