Miami Lakes United Methodist Church Community Health Ministry

Miami Lakes United Methodist Church Community Health Ministry Our Ministry works in collaboration with The Congregational Health Ministry (CHM) at Baptist Hospital of South Florida. Urban Health Connection. Stay Connected!

In partnership, we seek to strengthen our congregation with a holistic health care dynamic of physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Our Care Team Council has been well trained by Baptist CHM to provide post-hospitalization spiritual and practical care to our church members in need. We currently have three (3) existing programs servin

g our community. We have our Migrant Health Connection which serves our children and families in the Homestead City area. In collaboration with the First United Methodist Church in Homestead, which serves a food pantry to over 350 children and families on a weekly basis, we provide activities such as referrals, health education, health literacy support, and community health training to our Peer Health Navigators. In collaboration with neighborhoods in The Greater Miami Area, we are practicing one-on-one care management conversations and health education seminars motivating our families to interact with our primary health clinics and care network. Global Health Connection. In commitment to our Christian faith, we are reaching out to children and families of the world! We are working in partnership with Nicaragua. We have identified marginalized localities where community development, mental health, and sanitation will be areas of intervention. In connection with Haiti we are also providing donations, volunteer services, and health care resources in partnership with Miami-based Haitian community organizations. Our Community Health Ministry will also be working in Brazil to set up a community health project. We are currently in strategic planning discussions with community service organizations in Brazil. Mission Statement

To strengthen the faith and health of vulnerable children and families reducing the child mortality rate in Miami-Dade County and abroad. Vision

The love and commitment for our Lord Jesus Christ provides us with the Holy Scriptures to follow in his example, go outside our comfort zone, and to enhance human well-being. We are committed to meet the basic human health needs of all people, with particular attention to the empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty. Values
