St. John Meyersville

St. John Meyersville A Christ-centered, mission driven, traditionally grounded Lutheran church. Weekly Services: Sunday School - 9 am, Worship - 10:15 am. St.

John Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1851 by German settlers in the area. They began worshipping in a simple log cabin built by members. In May, 1866, the congregation passed a resolution to build a House of Worship as a thankoffering for the peace following the end of the Civil War. The original Stone Church was 46 feet long and 28 feet wide. The walls are 2 feet thick and were 14 feet

high. This building was restored in the 1950's and still stands today. It is open to visitors every day of the year and is still used for special events such as weddings, Advent Services, and Easter Sunrise Services. Our present church was built in the Gothic style. The cornerstone was laid on May 13, 1920 and the church was dedicated on July 20, 1921.

On this Graduation Sunday, we celebrated an important milestone for several of our young people: kindergarten graduates Cade Light, Grayson Schaefer, William Ohrt, and Kaleb Newman; middle school graduates Kinley Nessel, Rayland Picard, and Bryson Henkes; high school graduates Maverick Eckhardt and Kaleigh Newman; and college graduates Cason Jander and Morgan Mackenzie Goebel.

As we recognize these accomplishments, we’re reminded of Jesus’ words in Matthew 28:16-20. We are called to be Christ’s witnesses and ambassadors in the world. Someone shared the Good News with us, and now it’s our turn to share it with others.

Changing the world doesn’t happen all at once—it happens one conversation, one act of kindness, and one life at a time. As these graduates begin new chapters, may they know they are loved, supported, and called to shine Christ’s light wherever they go.

Thank you to Dan Pooley with Call Sign Victor for sharing a meaningful message with our congregation today as we recognized Memorial Day, Armed Forces Day, and the service and sacrifice of our veterans.

We are grateful for the many members of our congregation and community who have served throughout the years, and we give thanks for those who continue to serve today.

Thank you also to our church family for helping us remember the importance of faith, freedom, sacrifice, and community.

May God continue to bless and comfort all military members, veterans, and their families.

Today, we honor the memory of PFC Ellis James Haun, who gave his life while serving our country during World War II.

Ellis was just 20 years old when he was killed in action on May 10, 1945, in Okinawa, Japan while serving with the 383rd Infantry, 96th Division. He and his division were entering a village when they came under enemy machine gun fire.

Ellis was later awarded the Purple Heart posthumously in recognition of his sacrifice.

After initially being buried overseas, his remains were eventually returned home and laid to rest in the St. John cemetery.

Today, we remember Ellis’ bravery, sacrifice, and faithful service. We pray with gratitude for all who gave their lives for others.

Today, we remember and honor Randolph Goebel, a member of our St. John church family who gave his life during World War II while serving in the United States Merchant Marines.

Randolph had served only 9 months and 23 days when he perished in October 1943, during a collision between two tankers at sea. He was aboard the USS Gulfland, which was transporting aviation gasoline in support of the war effort. Because of wartime blackout conditions, both ships were traveling without lights.

Though Randolph’s body was lost at sea, a memorial headstone stands in the St. John cemetery in his honor.

Randolph was only 24 years old.

Today, we give thanks for his courage, sacrifice, and service to our country. May we never forget.

Today, we pause to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.

As we reflect this Memorial Day weekend, we especially remember members of our own St. John family who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their courage and service will never be forgotten.

We also give thanks for all veterans, active military members, and families who have faithfully served our nation throughout the years.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” — John 15:13

May we never forget the cost of freedom, and may we always honor those who gave so much for others.

Today in Sunday School, we celebrated the gift of mothers by creating special cards and sending our youth home with fresh flowers to share. We are thankful for the love, guidance, and faith-filled examples of the moms in our church family.

💐 “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” — 3 John 1:4.

Happy Mother’s Day! 💛

Today in Sunday School, we learned about the Parable of the Sower and what it means to have hearts that are ready to grow in faith. We talked about how Jesus’ words are like seeds, and it’s up to us to prepare our hearts to be good, fertile soil so those seeds can take root and grow.

To help bring the lesson to life, the kids placed “seeds” (stickers) onto a heart to represent planting God’s Word in their lives. It was such a simple but meaningful reminder that when we listen, learn, and trust, our faith can grow strong.

Take a look at their beautiful “heart full of seeds” 🌱
