Centenary United Methodist Church is a Christ-centered community of believers united in a common desire to grow in the knowledge, love, and joy of our Lord. We believe we are called to nurture one another in Christian faith so that we may be equipped for lives of discipleship, to proclaim the “good news” of Jesus Christ to all; to read and follow the teachings of the Holy Scriptures; to open to th

e ever-present leading and inspiration of the Holy Spirit; and to be in service to others after the example of Christ.

On Pentecost Sunday, Centenary observed the birth of the Christian church. In Pastor Sooah’s children’s message and sermon she spoke of the diversity of its makeup and the many gifts that are offered.

Pastor Sooah concluded her message with a question for all to consider: “What are the spiritual gifts that I’ve received from God? And perhaps an even more important question is how can God use what God has already given me to bless others? Because, the purpose of every gift you have is for the common good.”

Bob Carlson served as worship assistant and offered the morning’s scripture lesson, 1 Corinthians 12: 3-13.

At Centenary, all are welcome.

Centenary’s “sandwich warriors” were at it again last week!

Sixteen volunteers assembled 410 sandwiches at Centenary’s most recent Sandwich Making Night, in support of New Dover United Methodist Church’s “Bread Breakers” ministry. Sandwiches made by Centenary and other area churches are packed into lunch bags to make a complete lunch, and shared with neighbors in need through food pantries in Elizabeth, Plainfield, and Rahway.

A big thank-you to all the volunteers and donors who keep this vital ministry going. If you’d like to join us, we’d love to have more helping hands. It’s a meaningful way to serve and connect.

At Centenary, all are welcome!

Centenary was blessed to have Rev. Jamie Min as its guest preacher at Sunday’s worship service. It was a return to Centenary for Rev. Min, as she was a guest speaker at one of last year’s “Inspiring Youth Project” events. Rev. Min is an ordained deacon in the United Methodist Church, and a mental health therapist.

Rev. Min’s message, “Our Dwelling Place,” was rooted in the morning’s scripture lesson, from the Gospel of John 17: 1-11, which was read by worship assistant Scott Woodfield.

Rev. Min spoke about anxiety, and about finding ourselves in the ”between times,” drawing the parallel to the disciples as they neared the end of Jesus’s earthly life. She said we often find ourselves in the “between times, between promise and fulfillment, between the diagnosis and the healing, and between the prayer and the answer.” But she said that Jesus reminded his followers of “… whose they are – their identity was not rooted in certainty, stability or control; their identity was rooted to belonging to the Father.”

Rev. Min concluded her message by stating, “I want all of us to remember this, that we belong to God.”

Centenary’s Lay Leader, James Mojomick, assisted with the service, and the “Passing of the Peace” was led by the children and youth after the Children/Youth Message was delivered by Grace Manjourides, director of family ministry.

At Centenary, all are welcome.
