Empty hands, full hearts

We are beggars whose empty hands are met by God who refuses to remain distant. Coming closer to God does not begin with our works, it begins with God's boundless grace.

How will you come closer to God this Lent?

Today is Ash Wednesday.

Gracious God, out of your love and mercy you breathed into dust the breath of life, creating us to serve you and our neighbors. Call forth our prayers and acts of kindness, and strengthen us to face our mortality with confidence in the mercy of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. —Bread for the Day

We condemn the EPA's repeal of the endangerment finding. As Lutherans, we find this to be a betrayal of of our commitment to stewardship of Creation (Genesis 2).

ELCA Advocacy has made a statement that we share here.

On Ash Wednesday, we mark our foreheads with dust, acknowledging that we die and return to the earth. At the same time, the dust traces the life-giving cross that was indelibly marked on our foreheads at baptism.

Today we observe the Transfiguration of Our Lord, when Christ was revealed as God's beloved Son.

“While [Peter] was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him’” (Matthew 17:5). Praise God for revealing to us that Jesus Christ is the son of God, the promised messiah, savior and bearer of God’s love and mercy, who delivers us from the darkness of our sins and weaknesses. —Prayer Ventures
