Jesus said to the Jewish crowds:
"I am the living bread that came down from heaven;
whoever eats this bread will live forever;
and the bread that I will give
is my flesh for the life of the world."

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying,
"How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
Jesus said to them,
"Amen, amen, I say to you,
unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,
you do not have life within you.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood
has eternal life,
and I will raise him on the last day.
For my flesh is true food,
and my blood is true drink.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood
remains in me and I in him.
Just as the living Father sent me
and I have life because of the Father,
so also the one who feeds on me
will have life because of me.
This is the bread that came down from heaven.
Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died,
whoever eats this bread will live forever."
-John 6:51-58

The Archdiocesan Spirituality Center (ASC) is offering two wonderful opportunities this year for those seeking a deeper connection with God through a Silent Directed Retreat. A directed retreat is a time of complete silence, where each participant meets daily with a spiritual director. The retreatant is provided with scripture for personal prayer and reflection, spending the remainder of their time in silence, prayer, and rest. The community gathers for Mass and Adoration daily and meets individually with their Spiritual Direction. This sacred experience allows individuals to become more attuned to God's presence and action in their lives, guided by the daily meetings with a spiritual director.

This Five-Day Silent Directed Retreat will be held in the serene Cenacle on the Lake in Metairie, Louisiana, offer a peaceful setting for personal reflection and spiritual growth. This retreat experience offers a unique opportunity for individuals to deepen their relationship with God and renew their spiritual lives in a quiet and prayerful environment. God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned,
but whoever does not believe has already been condemned,
because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
-John 3:16-18

Save the Date! Spiritual Directors In-Service Day

In this day-long workshop, Julia Feder, Ph.D. will outline three different ways to make meaning out of suffering in the Christian tradition. Each of the three ways of thinking about suffering offer different gifts to sufferers and each of the three ways can have pitfalls. There will be time for personal reflection and group discussion as we explore together these different ways of making meaning of suffering.

Julia Feder, Ph.D. is the acting director of the Center for the Study of Spirituality and associate professor of Religious Studies and Theology at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. Her writing and research focus on theological anthropology, theologies of suffering, and spirituality. She is the author of Incarnating Grace: A Theology of Healing from Sexual Trauma and co-principal investigator of “Just One Jesuit: Communities’ Accounts of the Effects of Clergy Abuse Through the Lens of a Singular Priest’s Mission Activities,” a grant from Fordham University’s “Taking Responsibility Project.”
