The rabbis of the New Orleans Jewish community had the privilege yesterday of meeting with the newly appointed Archbishop, Most Reverend James F. Checchio. The gathering was truly a delightful and meaningful occasion, marked by warmth, openness, and a shared spirit of collaboration.

During our time together, we reflected on the rich and enduring history of the Jewish community in New Orleans, highlighting its deep roots and ongoing contributions to the cultural and spiritual fabric of the city. We also expressed our collective hope for continued partnership and mutual support between the Jewish and Catholic communities, building on a foundation of respect and friendship.

Importantly, the conversation also addressed the growing concern of antisemitism in our broader society. We discussed the vital role that education, particularly within Catholic institutions, can play in fostering understanding, combating prejudice, and promoting a more just and compassionate future.

Overall, the meeting was a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from dialogue, relationship, and shared commitment to the well-being of our communities.
