Matthew 5:7-9

Jesus shifted his focus from thoughts to actions. Following Him is an inward decision that has outward results. Christians have been saved by God's mercy, having nothing to do with their own righteousness, so they should naturally show mercy to others.

In verse 8, Jesus underscored the importance of maintaining moral and spiritual purity. The religious leaders of His time placed heavy emphasis on outward cleanliness, but Jesus wants His followers' outward behavior to reflect the purity deep within them. In verse 9, Jesus declared that peacemakers will be called the children of God. Part of our mandate as Christians is to help others find the peace with God that we have found. When we fulfill this role, the world will recognize we are God's children.

We have a faithful, strong Christian lady in our church who consistently works for the Lord. She prepares our bulletins every week with scripture and heart evaluating thoughts.

We talk about self-evaluation often in Sunday school. If we don't do it often, we can become insensitive to sin and it will grow and get out of hand. The sermon also included the results of becoming callous to sin and stagnant (content) in our spiritual growth.

God wants to be our guide in everything we do.
