Most of us grew up believing that being good enough is what makes God accept us.

And so we perform. We compare. We justify.

But legalism doesn’t just affect how we relate to God — it quietly poisons how we treat everyone around us. When your standing depends on your record, you start keeping score on everyone else’s too.

The gospel flips the whole script.

Jesus doesn’t accept you because you’ve earned it — he makes you acceptable. That’s not a loophole. That’s freedom.

We live in a world obsessed with identity.

Your ethnicity. Your politics. Your background. Your brand.

Everything is telling you — this is who you are.

And honestly? The church can fall into the same trap.

Jesus plus your culture. Jesus plus your tradition. Jesus plus whatever makes our group feel superior.

But Pastor John said something this week that cuts through all of it:
that’s not the gospel. That’s gospel confusion.

Real identity isn’t Christ plus anything.

It’s Christ, period.

Be honest — how long have you been trying to be good enough?

Good enough for God. Good enough for others.

Good enough to finally feel like you’ve got it together.

You’ve been told your whole life that you have to earn your place.

Perform enough. Be good enough. Fix yourself first, then come to God.
But what if that’s not the gospel at all?

The gospel is more like adoption. Nobody earns their way into a family. You’re chosen. Welcomed. Fully accepted — as you are.

And in Christ, you don’t just get into the family. You share the same rights as Jesus.

That’s not religion. That’s grace.
