BIBLE INTERPRETATION
CONSISTENCY AND BALANCE
By; Hector P Torres

A discussion about the Bible, men and women, in this culture leaves the door wide open to impassioned and quite often false interpretations of Biblical Scripture, so I want to lay a foundation of how we can approach this issue in order to rightly divide the Word of God.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Tim. 3-16
“Study (Be diligent, Earnestly seek, Endeavor) to present yourself approved unto God, a workman that has nothing to be ashamed of, able to RIGHTLY (correctly) divide, handle or apply the Word of God” 2 Timothy 2.14 Rightly divide orthotomunta = cutting straight
“Knowing this FIRST, that NO PROPHECY of Scripture is of any PRIVATE interpretation” 2 Peter 1.20
So how can we interpret the WORD of God correctly?
We MUST allow the Bible to interpret itself, in its context, in previous use, in consistency, in overall balance. By whom it was written, to whom it was written, when it was written. Is it Old or New Testament, When does the New Testament become effective. Whose words are being quoted, Is it God? Is it man? Is it the devil?
The original texts did not have chapters, verses or titles. These have all been placed by men based on their interpretations and context of the scriptures.
You must consider that over 80% of the scriptures are written in PLURAL form, they are written to everyone, Some to God’s children through Abraham and HIS SEED (Israel and the Church) Some to the Church corporately some to Whosoever, some to the those who are called and sanctified (Jude), to those that have obtained like precious faith (2 Peter), to the pilgrims of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia (1 Peter) To all who are in Rome called the saints. To the Church of God which is at Corinth, called to be saints, to Timothy, a true son in the faith, To Titus a true, etc. son
1 Corinthians 7.6 “But I say this as a concession, not as a commandment” (Paul speaking)
1 Corinthians 7.7 “For I wish that all men were even as myself” (Paul speaking) God speaking says “IT IS NOT GOOD for man to be alone”
1 Corinthians 7.8 But I say to the unmarried and the widows: It is good for them to remain even as I am” (Paul speaking).
1 Corinthians 1.10-11 “To the married I command not I but the Lord “A wife is not to depart from her husband, But even if she does, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled” yet in verse 15 he writes “But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or sister is NOT UNDER bo***ge in such cases. But God has called us to peace”

The two most commonly used texts that are used in opposition to women in ministry are:
“Let a woman learn in silence with full submission. 12 I permit no woman[b] to teach or to have authority over a man;[c] she is to keep silent.” NRSB. “I don’t let women take over and tell the men what to do. They should study to be quiet and obedient along with everyone else.” MSG Bible. 1 Timothy 2.11-12.

“Let a woman keep silent in the Church for it is not permitted for women to speak”

How do we interpret this? Can she lead worship? Can she pray? Can she sing a Solo? Can she prophecy? Can she share a testimony? Can she teach a lesson?

What about the manifestations of the Spirit? The Scripture does not differentiate whether male or female. It reads “BUT the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one (male or female) for the profit of ALL (male or female) To one is given the word of wisdom to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit for the profit of ALL (male or female)

1 Corinthians 14. 34-35 “Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church” NKJV

Teaching, prophecy and tongues and the manifestations of the Spirit. Verses 26 and 27 explicitly reads that when you come together (Churches, Houses, Meetings?) each of you (male or female is NOT stipulated) asks: Each of you has a psalm, has a TEACHING, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation, LET ALL these things be done for edification”

Paul is NOT forbidding for women to speak or teach or use their spiritual gifts, NO, NO, NO. The context of the letter is rather to prohibit undisciplined arguments and discussions publicly disturbing the meetings.

The Message Bible has a better and more understandable significance of what Paul is saying:

34-36 Wives must not disrupt worship, talking when they should be listening, asking questions that could more appropriately be asked of their husbands at home. God’s Book of the law guides our manners and customs here. Wives have no license to use the time of worship for unwarranted speaking. Do you—both women and men—imagine that you’re a sacred oracle determining what’s right and wrong? Do you think everything revolves around you? MSG Bible

The debate is ongoing but in the context of the previous verses regarding these very difficult scriptures MUST be taken in a contextual, consistent and balanced interpretation.

1 Timothy 3.2 says that a Bishop MUST be the husband of ONE WIFE. Does that rule single men form serving in the Church? What about divorced men that were saved after their divorce?

1 Timothy 5. 3-16 would require churches to establish “orders for widows” for those 60 or older and would require that all widows (men and women) fifty nine and younger to GET MARRIED for reason of sensual desires and idleness.

Romans 16.16 commends us to “Greet one another with a holy Kiss” 1 Corinthians 16.20 “Greet one another with a holy kiss” 1 Thessalonians 5.26 “Greet ALL the brethren with a Holy Kiss”

What about foot washing? We are explicitly commanded to do it (John 13.14-15)

Obviously our inherited tradition, as well as our sense of cultural context, strongly influence our interpretations. What happens in other parts of the world with wine, beer, to***co, bikinis, hair beards, mustaches, ETC, ETC, ETC.

We therefore must rethink traditional teachings and doctrines and reaffirm the Biblical basis for the participation of women in Church ministry. The underlying Biblical theology of being “a new creation in Christ”, partakers of a new and better covenant built on better promises. The fact that under this New Covenant there is neither Jew nor Greek Male nor Female, neither slave nor free, neither male or female we are all one in Christ Jesus, All sons of God through faith in Christ, Abrahams seed and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3.26-29.

There is a powerful affirmation and inclusion among the disciples of women in the ministry. Jesus’s inclusion of women among his disciples and witnesses; the coming of the Holy Spirit on sons and daughters to prophecy and dream dreams; Paul’s inclusion of women in his circle of coworkers in the ministry and the historical account of the early Church fathers that affirms equal participation of both men and women in all ministries of the gospel.

Women who served in Ministry in the early Church included Lydia, Chloe, Nympha, Apphia, Mary. Persis, Tryphena, Tryphosa, Priscilla, Euvodia, Syntyche, Phoebe, Junia and Mary Magdalene. The last two recognized by Paul and the Early church fathers as APOSTLES of the Lord.

My personal believe for all women in ministry and that goes for all men also is that EVERYONE needs a Spiritual COVERING and that it should be a MALE.

The Seven R's of Deliverance Ministry
By; Hector P Torres Adapted from an article in Charisma Magazine.
Deliverance ministry must be grounded in love for God and love for the person needing freedom. God is love and Christians are to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love others (Matt. 22:37-39). It is out of love we minister to others, and may find ourselves needing to cast out evil spirits or bring people to repentance of sinful attitudes and repetitive behaviors referred to as the fruit of the FLESH.
If you are stepping into a time of deliverance, one of the best things you can do is minister deliverance preferably with others. We’d like to share these seven easy to remember steps we have learned over time that can help when doing deliverance ministry. Please be sure to know that YOU are in a proper relationship and condition with the Lord.
We’re to always be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and how He wants to set people free and transform them.
1. Repent: I would ask the person to pray, repenting of their sins and acknowledging what the Scripture says aligning them with God’s Word and will. We would quote and pray Scripture and affirm its truth. Repentance is not just agreeing with God and the Scripture of sin, but choosing to walk away from it, and asking for the Holy Spirit’s help in no longer committing those sins (Matt. 3:2; Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9).
2. Rebuke: The anointing of the Holy Spirit is always effective during deliverance, boldness is necessary. Rebuke the evil spirits in Jesus’ name. This may be strong, but is only directed at the demons, not the person. The best option is to lead the person needing deliverance to rebuke the demonic entities when necessary. (Matt. 17:18; Luke 4:41).
3. Renounce: Have the person verbally renounce their sins and the evil spirits that may be clinging to, commanding them to leave in Jesus’ name and never return. Out of dignity, love and honor for the person we are ministering to, we shouldn’t tolerate demonic manifestations, because Jesus didn’t allow them. There may be some manifestations, you must take authority over any spirits as Jesus did. You have authority over any principalities and powers and we should do all we can to ensure we minister freedom to the individual and not give the enemy an opportunity to resist or manifest. You can be specific in renouncing sins as long as you’re listening to the Holy Spirit and following His direction.
4. Renew: The person would entrust their faith in Christ, declaring that He is Lord of everything in their life, and ask for the fruit of the Spirit and to abide by Christ like character. If they didn’t have a relationship with Jesus, then in applying Romans 10:9-10, they would be saved. If they are Christians, this declaration is reaffirming their commitment and is a milestone in their life. Then pray Scripture over them that would be the opposite qualities or character traits of the demonic spirits cast out or sinful behaviors confessed.
Often there are people casting out demons that do not EXIST. The Bible makes reference to Spirits and it does not merely refer to evil spirits in operation. For example: a spirit of deception, spirit of fear, spirit of jealousy, spirit of apathy, spirit of indifference, spirit of lethargy, spirit of Jezebel and many more, all of these have to do with attitudes of the heart and NOT fallen or deceiving angels. In the same manner the Bible refers to the Spirit of faith, spirit of wisdom, spirit of life, spirit of grace, spirit of truth, spirit of counsel and power, spirit of meekness, spirit of glory, spirit of adoption and several more. In none of these cases it is referring to GODLY spirits that cause us to behave in those matters, it is rather a behavior and attitude of the HEART. You Must identify these areas and REPENT of those carnal behaviors referred to in Galatians as the fruit of the flesh.
5. Refresh: Minister the baptism or an infilling with the Holy Spirit. Pray and worship, asking God to fill them to overflowing and begin to manifest that which they received at their spiritual birth. When we have released them of any demonic oppression OR carnal behavior we pray for them to walk in humility and repentance and refrain from returning to past behaviors.
6. Rejoice: Give Him thanks and praise, adoring and being grateful to Him. Rejoice and celebrate that your name is written in the Lamb’s book of life (Luke 10:20). Then spend time with Jesus every day, praying and worshiping Him, and praying in the incredible spiritual manifestation of unknown tongues and prophecy.
7. Release: Testify and release your story of how Jesus has set you free. Focus on Him and His grace with love. Don’t mention the manifestation of the demonic if any took place. Instead, tell others the gospel of the kingdom to see the sick healed, the blind see, the deaf hear, cast out demons and raise the dead in Jesus’ name (Matt. 4:23).
Every situation is unique and one must be discerning and attentive to the incredible Holy Spirit, but these steps to be helpful to minister freedom. It has been amazing to see Jesus truly set the captives free.

The Ancient Pagan Origins of Easter
By: Hector P Torres and compiled from several different sources.

Easter is a festival and holiday celebrated by millions of people around the world who honor the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred three days after his crucifixion at Calvary. It is also the day that children excitedly wait for the Easter bunny to arrive and deliver their treats of chocolate eggs.
The word Easter does not appear in the Bible in any place with the exception of a verse in Acts 2.14 on the original King James Version as by the time of the translation the ritual of Easter had already become a tradition in the apostate Church. Most current versions refer to the day as PASSOVER as you will read later. This word IS NOT USED in ANY BIBLE in a foreign language. The Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and all other language refer to RESURRECTION SUNDAY as PASSOVER SUNDAY referring to the celebration of the Pasach when the Israelites were delivered from the judgment
According to some scholars, such as Dr. Tony Nugent, teacher of Theology and Religious Studies at Seattle University, and Presbyterian minister, the Easter story comes from the Sumerian legend of Damuzi ( Tammuz) and his wife Inanna ( Ishtar), an epic myth called “The Descent of Inanna” found inscribed on cuneiform clay tablets dating back to 2100 BC. When Tammuz dies, Ishtar is grief–stricken and follows him to the underworld. In the underworld, she enters through seven gates, and her worldly attire is removed. "Naked and bowed low" she is judged, killed, and then hung on display. In her absence, the earth loses its fertility, crops cease to grow and animals stop reproducing. Unless something is done, all life on earth will end.
The Sumerian goddess Inanna is known outside of Mesopotamia by her Babylonian name, "Ishtar". In ancient Canaan Ishtar is known as Astarte, and her counterparts in the Greek and Roman pantheons are known as Aphrodite and Venus. In the 4th Century, when Christians identified the exact site in Jerusalem where the empty tomb of Jesus had been located, they selected the spot where a temple of Aphrodite (Astarte/Ishtar/Inanna, Ashtoreth) stood. The temple was torn down and so the Church of the Holy Sepulcher was built, the holiest church in the Christian world.
The date upon which Easter is held varies from year to year, and corresponds with the first Sunday following the full moon after the March equinox. It occurs on different dates around the world since western churches use the Gregorian calendar , while eastern churches use the Julian calendar.
While Easter was a pagan festival , its roots and many of its traditions have associations with ancient pagan customs and beliefs.
According to the New Unger’s Bible Dictionary: “The word Easter is of Saxon origin, Eastra, the goddess of spring, in whose honor sacrifices were offered about Passover time each year. By the eighth century Anglo–Saxons had adopted the name to designate the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.” However, even among those who maintain that Easter has pagan roots, there is some disagreement over which pagan tradition the festival emerged from. Here we will explore some of those perspectives.

One theory that has been put forward is that the Easter story of crucifixion and resurrection is symbolic of rebirth and renewal and retells the cycle of the seasons, the death and return of the sun.

After Inanna has been missing for three days her assistant goes to other gods for help. Finally one of them Enki, creates two creatures who carry the plant of life and water of life down to the Underworld, sprinkling them on Inanna and Damuzi, resurrecting them, and giving them the power to return to the earth as the light of the sun for six months. After the six months are up, Tammuz returns to the underworld of the dead, remaining there for another six months, and Ishtar pursues him, prompting the water god to rescue them both. Thus were the cycles of winter death and spring life.

A related perspective is that, rather than being a representation of the story of Ishtar, Easter was originally a celebration of Eostre, goddess of Spring, otherwise known as Ostara, Austra, and Eastre. One of the most revered aspects of Ostara for both ancient and modern observers is a spirit of renewal.

Celebrated at Spring Equinox on March 21, Ostara marks the day when light is equal to darkness, and will continue to grow. As the bringer of light after a long dark winter, the goddess was often depicted with the hare, an animal that represents the arrival of spring as well as the fertility of the season.

According to Jacob Grimm’s Deutsche Mythologie , the idea of resurrection was ingrained within the celebration of Ostara: “Ostara, Eástre seems therefore to have been the divinity of the radiant dawn, of up springing light, a spectacle that brings joy and blessing, whose meaning could be easily adapted by the resurrection-day of the Christian's God.”

The fact of the matter is that JESUS did not die on a Friday NOR was he resurrected on a Sunday. He actually died on a Wednesday and was resurrected exactly after three days and three nights on a Saturday at three pm EXACTLY 72 hours. If interested you should read my teaching ON WHAT DAY DID JESUS DIE.

While there are distinct differences between the celebrations of Pesach and Easter, both festivals celebrate rebirth – in Christianity through the resurrection of Jesus, and in Jewish traditions through the liberation of the Israelites from slavery.

Easter is associated with the Jewish festival of Passover through its symbolism and meaning, as well as its position in the calendar. Some early Christians chose to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on the same date as Passover, which reflects Easter having entered Christianity during its earliest Jewish period. Evidence of a more developed Christian festival of Easter emerged around the mid-second century as the Roman Church began its apostasy of the Gospel delivered by the Church fathers including the worship of Mary and the belief that she did not die but was taken up to heaven to be a co redeemer and as the one to pray for in order to receive favor from God the Father.

In 325 AD, Emperor Constantine convened a meeting of Christian leaders to resolve important disputes at the Council of Nicaea. Since the church believed that the resurrection took place on a Sunday, the Council determined that Easter should always fall on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox. Easter has since remained without a fixed date but proximate to the full moon, which coincided with the start of Passover.

While many of the pagan customs associated with the celebration of Spring were at one stage practiced alongside Christian Easter traditions, they eventually came to be absorbed within Christianity, as symbols of the resurrection of Jesus. The First Council of Nicaea (325 AD) established the date of Easter as the first Sunday after the full moon (the Paschal Full Moon) following the March equinox .

The most widely-practiced customs on Easter Sunday relate to the symbol of the rabbit (‘Easter bunny’) and the egg. As outlined previously, a hare was a symbol associated with Eostre, representing the beginning of Springtime. Likewise, the egg has come to represent Spring, fertility, and renewal. In Germanic mythology, it is said that Ostara healed a wounded bird she found in the woods by changing it into a hare. Still partially a bird, the hare showed its gratitude to the goddess by laying eggs as gifts.

The Encyclopedia Britannica clearly explains the pagan traditions associated with the egg: “The egg as a symbol of fertility and of renewed life goes back to the ancient Egyptians and Persians, who had also the custom of coloring and eating eggs during their spring festival.” In ancient Egypt, an egg symbolized the sun, while for the Babylonians, the egg represents the hatching of the Venus Ishtar, who fell from heaven to the Euphrates. All the names of virgin GODESSES go back to Ishtar and all of them are one in the same referred to in the Bible by Jeremiah as THE QUEEN OF HEAVEN ( Jer.44.17-19 and 25) or as Isaiah wrote in Chapter 47 as virgin daughter of Babylon and daughter of the Chaldeans. Jeremiah declares that because of worship to the queen of Heaven HE WILL NOT HEAR their prayers AND calamity will fall upon all of them that burn incense ( a type of prayer) to her.

While there are distinct differences between the celebrations of Pesach and Easter, both festivals celebrate rebirth – in Christianity through the resurrection of Jesus, and in Jewish traditions through the liberation of the Israelites from slavery. the question is: Should we refer to the celebration as RESURRECTION or PASSOVER day? or should we be a part of the pagan mixture and call it Easter?
