Christ the Cornerstone Lutheran Church of NWI

Christ the Cornerstone Lutheran Church of NWI We come together in worship and in service to our Lord and community, using teachings based upon a belief in the authority of the Holy Scriptures.

Christ the Cornerstone is a church focused on a strong desire to stay grounded in our fundamental Lutheran teachings and beliefs. We have built our church on Christ as our firm foundation and our centerpiece. We meet in the South Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Merrillville each Sunday at 9:30am for worship service and communion. After worship has finished, we gather in fellowship for re

freshments. We have joined with the North American Lutheran Church in common beliefs in the four Core Values:
- Christ-Centered
- Mission Driven
- Traditionally Grounded
- Congregationally Focused

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear sister in Christ, Christine Bauer. A celebration of her life will be held on January 21st at 10am in the South Sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church in Merrillville (7898 Taft St).

Christine graduated from the Lutheran Deaconess program affiliated with Valparaiso University. For the last 35 years, she lived her life in service to the Lord serving several congregations all over the country. She most recently served at Holy Shepherd Lutheran in St. John, Indiana. After retiring from Holy Shepherd, she shared her talents and skills as an integral founding member of our congregation. Losing her leaves a big hole in our church family. She taught us so much, and she showed us the love of Christ lived out. While we are sad that she is not with us here anymore, we rejoice for Christine that she is with her Savior worshiping in his presence.

Christine, we miss you, and we'll see you soon!

John 14:1-3 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."
