World Day of Prayer 2026 celebrations taking place around the Diocese.

World Day of Prayer in 2026 will be observed on Friday, March 6th, and people from over 170 countries will participate in worship around the globe on the same day. The worship service for the 2026 World Day of Prayer was prepared by an ecumenical group of Christian women from the African country of Nigeria and focuses on the theme: "I Will Give You Rest: Come" based on St. Matthew 11:28-30. Today, the church commemorates St. Stephen’s Day. We remember St. Stephen, the protomartyr (first martyr of the church).

Let us remember with gratitude, the life of St. Stephen, a deacon of the early church, and follow the life of Christ as demonstrated through his life and death. The Greek word “stephanos” means wreath or crown. In this situation, this symbolized the crown of martyrdom.

Let us remember the words of Tertullian of Carthage, a second century church father, who wrote: “the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church.”

Acts of the Apostles 7: 58-60: “Then they dragged him out of the city and began to stone him; and the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. While they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he knelt down and cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he died.”

On January 6th, the church celebrated Danaha: The Baptism of our Lord, whereby our Lord identified himself with sinful humanity. As the faithful, we reflect on our identity as God’s children.

“And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.’ “ (St. Matthew 3: 16-17)

The Altar Boys & Covenant Girls Learning Program (A.B.C.G.) will start the Spring 2026 semester of classes for Phases 1, 2, & 3 during the second week of January 2026. Registration is now open, and each course has specific prerequisites and requirements. New students can register for Phase 1. Open for active church members ages 12-18.
