Jesus has confronted the religious leaders of Israel, the people in Galilee, and the crowds of people seeking Him only for their material needs. In this passage He confronts those who have been following Him, His disciples. The Scriptures tell us that after Jesus confronts them that many of them turned away and walked no more with Jesus. The big question is why. Why after two years of watching Jesus do miracle after miracle and hearing Him teach about the kingdom of God would they turn from following Him?

After Jesus feeds the multitudes they desire to make Him their king, but He sends the 12 away in a boat and dismisses the crowd. It was a dangerous time for His followers as they did not understand His mission or who He truly was. Jesus sends His disciples into a storm and when He comes to them they finally see who He is and worship Him. The following day many come seeking Jesus, but he rebukes them sharply. Why does He rebuke them? Come to the Bridge this Sunday morning and we will examine the Word of Christ to find out.

Jesus leads the 12 into the wilderness and He feeds the multitudes by multiplying the loaves and the fish. Does this remind you of a story in the Old Testament? After feeding the people He immediately sends the disciples away and into a storm. Why? Mark says that they did not understand the meaning of the loaves. This event is recorded in all four gospels because it is a pivotal moment in Jesus ministry and the life of His disciples and Apostles. The Apostles need to gain a deeper understanding of Jesus before the cross. He will also challenge those who are disciples, but are following Him for the wrong reasons. In our next message we will see many of His disciples turn from following when they are confronted with the reality of Jesus. What does Jesus reveal about Himself that causes them to turn back?
