"Parables Church is excited to continue to legacy of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in the Tuxedo Community. As of 1/1/17 Eighth Avenue Baptist Church passed the baton to "Parables" Church to continue its mission to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Eighth Avenue Baptist Church began as a mission Sunday School in the home of Mrs. Mollie Lumby, at 7th Avenue and 16th Street. The mission grew and i
n 1898, supported by the Home Mission Board, was constituted a church. In 1906, a tornado damaged the church, leaving only floor and pews intact. In 1909, the church moved to the corner of 8th Avenue and 15th Street. Then in 1929, because so many members lived in the Tuxedo community, the church was moved to its current location. The church continued to grow; and in 1944, the building was enlarged and a pastorium was added on. In 1962, a separate home was built behind the church to be used as the pastorium; and then in 1969, and Activities Building was built. In 2014 Parables Church began sharing the campus, using the Activity Building for its weekly worship Celebrations. In May of 2015 the two churches began meeting as one Church. In January 2017 the campus at 801 C Street officially became known as Parables Church.
