Salvation Army Sgt. Daniel Noland Announces Departure From Meridian for New Post in Washington
---
Salvation Army Sgt. Daniel Noland and his family will soon say goodbye to Meridian as they prepare for a transfer to Washington state later this summer.
Noland announced that he and his family will officially leave the Meridian Salvation Army Corps on June 21, when the organization will hold a farewell Sunday in their honor.
“As of June 21st, 2026 me and my family will be transferred all the way over to the northwest division,” Noland said. “So, we’re leaving this territory, and I’m going to oversee the Renton Corps.”
Noland said the move comes for family reasons and described the transition as bittersweet after building strong connections in Meridian.
“We’re really sad that we have to go,” he said. “In a short time, Meridian has meant so much to us, but for family reasons we needed to be transferred.”
The transfer will take Noland back to Renton, Washington — a place he says played a major role in changing his life.
“Renton is actually my home corps,” Noland said. “I came to the Salvation Army through one of our programs.”
Noland said he entered the Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Center program while battling addiction and other personal struggles. The program focuses on rehabilitation for drugs, alcohol and other social challenges.
“So, I graduated that program, and that was the corps, that was the church that I settled in,” he said. “From there, I became a part of the ministry team.”
Noland said his ministry journey began through outreach efforts and street ministry in Renton, where he later married and continued growing in leadership.
“To rewind a little bit, two weeks before I went into the program, I was actually one of the clients eating at their Saturday breakfast,” he said. “Now, I get to come back home and be the pastor and the officer of that corps.”
While serving in Meridian, Noland helped oversee several community outreach programs, including the Salvation Army’s client choice marketplace, which allows families to shop for groceries in a more personal and dignified setting.
“One of the things that is near and dear to me, is this client choice marketplace,” he said. “Being able to give these clients what they deserve.”
Instead of receiving prepackaged food boxes, clients are able to choose their own items.
“Now, they get to come in and they get to go through and have a full shopping experience,” Noland said. “Picking out their own produce, non-perishables, bread, proteins, and they leave with a smile.”
Noland said he and his family will miss the relationships they formed in Meridian during their time serving the community.
“We’ll miss all of the connections and the friendships that we’ve made in the short time, and how welcoming Meridian has been to us,” he said.
The Meridian Salvation Army Corps will soon welcome Major Holly Needham as its new leader.
“Her name is Major Holly Needham,” Noland said. “She has been an officer for a little more than 15 years. She is experienced, she’s passionate, and she’s excited to come and get to work.”
As the Nolands prepare for their next chapter, Daniel Noland said Meridian will always hold a special place in their hearts.
“We love Meridian,” he said. “We are going to miss Meridian, the church, and this entire community.”
