THE MONDAY MORNING MIRROR - JUNE 15, 2026
"Can you discover the depths of God? Can you discover the limits of the Almighty?" (Job 11:7 NASB95)
When we (perhaps I should just say, "When I") think of Job's well-meaning, yet a bit misguided fronds, mixed feelings may arise. Certainly, after sitting quietly in mourning with the beleagured man, following his terrible losses, expecting to comfort him, after seven days the tide seemed to turn. Their cries of tear-filled lament suddenly turn into tirades that bascially tell Job, "What a sinner you must have been!"
And yet, in the midst of their speeches concerning things Job must have done wrong, every once-in-awhile one of them speaks a certain amount of truth. Such is what Zophar does in the verse quoted above. Can any of us actually "discover the depths of God"? Doubtful. As a matter of fact, Zophar's comment foreshadows God's own discourse in Chapters 38:1 to 42:6, where God lays it all out for all four men (five, if we include the mystical Elihu).
When we gaze into the Monday Morning Mirror, even after what might have been a glorious Sabbath weekend, do we really know how truly great God is? Can we fathom how much He truly loves us? Do we realize how much more he has in store for us if we would just take the time to get to know Him better, to heed His Word, and to hear what He has to say to us? Do we take God seriously enough?
That is what God want from us - to take the time to fully experience His "fullness". We will never know the extent of God’s power, or of His loving mercy and grace, or the joy He experiences when we are obedient to "His calling and choosing" us (see 2 Peter 1:10).
But the search - and the revelations that develop during the search - will make Mondays, and every other day, worth the time, effort, and commitment to God's desires for each one of us.
