“Till he appear'd and the soul felt its worth.”
I heard this line and it immediately brought to mind the picture of 2 different scenarios I had recently read in scripture.
1. The woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-11)
2. The woman at the well (John 4:4-26)
(If you don’t know these stories, and even if you do, please read them!)
In both cases, these are women who were seen by others in society, and the religious leaders at the time, as dirty, shameful and “throw-aways”.
TILL HE appeared.
In both cases Jesus intentionally meets these women. He literally goes out of His way to find them.
He saves one from getting stoned to death and gives the other one a brand new identity and hope.
In both cases, He reveals Himself as Lord and shows them a type of kindness, compassion, and gentleness they’d never experienced.
And in both cases, these women’s souls finally opened up to understanding their worth.
And that their worth isn’t even found in themselves, but it’s found in Him who came not to condemn the world but save it through Him.
Christmas is for the sinner.
It’s for the one riddled with shame.
It’s for the person who thinks they’ll never be loved or worthy.
It’s for all of us, of course.
Because there are no throw aways to Jesus.
He appeared, on earth as a human, for one reason and that’s to save us.
And friends, the more you get to know him the more you’ll love Him.
And your soul will undeniably feel a new sense of worth that only comes from knowing you’re His.
