Today we celebrate the feast of the Visitation between the Mary, the mother of Jesus, and her cousin Elizabeth.

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.”

And Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor
on the lowliness of his servant.

Surely, from now on
all generations will call me blessed;
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.

His mercy is for those
who fear him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;

he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.

He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy,
according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

-- Luke 1:41-55

Father in heaven, by your grace the virgin mother of your incarnate Son was blessed in bearing him, but still more blessed in keeping your word: Grant us who honor the exaltation of her lowliness to follow the example of her devotion to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Wherever you are on your journey with God or towards God, you are welcome in these pews and at God's table.

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” -- Matthew 28:16-20

Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability." -- Acts 2:1-4

Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

A Pentecost Prayer
by Bishop Rob

Come, Holy Spirit,
Embrace me and hold me when I am feeling anxious, afraid, or lost.

Come, Holy Spirit,
Enkindle in me the fire of God’s love for whatever and whomever I meet.

Come, Holy Spirit,
Purge me from any sin or any distraction that would have me forget you are nearer than my own breath and heartbeat.

Come, Holy Spirit,
Show me the glory of your greening presence in all created beings, living or not, teeming or unmoving. Guide my heart and hands to further your healing, restoration and renewing of this glorious and wounded planet that is yours, not ours.

Come, Holy Spirit,
Fashion my will with your strength that my life will invite—and not fruitlessly shame—others to the grace of Jesus Christ.

Come, Holy Spirit,
Comfort those burdened with grief, sorrow, fear, confusion, or anger. Be their soothing balm today.

Come, Holy Spirit,
Guide me to a new and steady vision of justice and good in this society, especially when I cannot or I refuse to hope, or see, or work for it.

Come, Holy Spirit,
Enter the cracks and brokenness, the failures and shortcomings of my life and this world. Fill my soul with the forgiveness and peace that the Risen Jesus breathes on those who follow him

Come, Holy Spirit,
Help me rejoice in finding you to be the source and the homecoming of all my prayers, all my actions, indeed my entire life—in the past, in the present, and for all eternity.

Come, Holy Spirit.

Today we celebrate Jesus' Ascension to heaven where He takes His place at the Father's right hand.

Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up his hands, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and they were continually in the temple blessing God.

- Luke 24:44-53

Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

John 14:15-21

”If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.”

O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Almighty God our heavenly Father,

Your Son commanded us to love our enemies: Lead them and us from prejudice to truth: deliver them and us from hatred, cruelty, and revenge; and in your good time enable us all to stand reconciled before you. Guide the nations of the world into the way of justice and truth, and establish among them that peace which is the fruit of righteousness.

We pray through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Acts 7:55-60
Filled with the Holy Spirit, Stephen gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” But they covered their ears, and with a loud shout all rushed together against him. Then they dragged him out of the city and began to stone him; and the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. While they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he knelt down and cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he died.

Almighty God, whom truly to know is everlasting life: Grant us so perfectly to know your Son Jesus Christ to be the way, the truth, and the life, that we may steadfastly follow his steps in the way that leads to eternal life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

oday we celebrate the Feast of Saint Philip and Saint James.

Almighty God, who gave to your apostles Philip and James grace and strength to bear witness to the truth: Grant that we, being mindful of their victory of faith, may glorify in life and death the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Feast of Saints Philip and James, observed on May 1, honors two apostles of Jesus about whom the Scriptures tell us little, yet whose faith and witness endure in the life of the Church.

James, called “the Less” to distinguish him from James the son of Zebedee, is identified as the son of Alpheus and may also be the “James the younger” who, with his mother Mary, watched the crucifixion from afar.

Philip appears more vividly in the Gospel of John, where Jesus calls him soon after Andrew and Peter. Eager to share the good news, Philip brings his friend Nathanael to meet Jesus. His practical, questioning nature surfaces again when he wonders how to feed the vast crowd, only to see Jesus multiply the loaves and fishes, and later when he asks, “Lord, show us the Father,” prompting Jesus’ profound reply, “He who has seen me has seen the Father.”

Though their later lives are largely hidden from history, both apostles are remembered for their simple faithfulness—the readiness to follow, to ask, to trust, and to proclaim the truth of Christ.
