Juneteenth // June 19
On June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received word that they were free. Freedom had already been declared. It just hadn’t reached everyone yet.
That gap matters. Real reconciliation can’t skip past the truth of what actually happened. It has to be told honestly before it can be healed. Juneteenth holds both: the celebration of freedom and the sober reminder of how long justice can be delayed when it depends on others to deliver it.
At Freedom Church, Reconciled Diversity isn’t a tagline. It’s a conviction that the gospel reconciles us not just to God but to one another, across every line that’s tried to divide us. Today we remember, we lament what was delayed, and we celebrate freedom that is fully, finally good news for all people.
