The old proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child,” holds true for camp ministry—it truly takes a village to run a camp.

Community.

For any kind of ministry to be sustainable for the long haul, I believe it must be held and supported by a community of people in a variety of ways which includes financial support, boots on the ground support, vision support, and prayer support.

The colossal old bald cypress that is a mainstay and central to the view off the pier, is just one of a few of the old guys in the middle of the lake. It has stood the test of time, as it’s seen not just mere decades but centuries. It is a survivor of many ups and downs—especially lightning strikes—but still conveys redemption as its lower limbs green up each successive year.
It is a survivor, and like our camp founders we marvel at their strength and resiliency. It is in this sense of steadfastness that we give thanks to God, in this our 40th year anniversary of King’s Camp.
