Church planting has always been a sending act, not a solo one. Healthy churches do not just receive from the mission. They release people into it. Jesus did not say I will help you build My church. He said, "I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it" (Matthew 16:18, NASB). Every church planter needs to hear that on the hard days. You are not the builder. You are the one He builds with. That should relieve some pressure and add some weight, both at the same time.

Paul left Titus in Crete to put what remained in order and appoint elders in every town (Titus 1:5). Planting a church isn't finished when the first service happens. It is not finished until local leadership is raised up, tested, and trusted with the work. A church without elders is a church still being planted. Purpose means staying long enough to see that through.

Paul did not just preach the Gospel to the churches he planted. He gave them his life to watch. "Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1, NASB). New churches need more than sound teaching. They need leaders whose lives are worth following. Every church planter needs that verse memorized, because the temptation to take credit — or to take the blame — runs deep. Planting a church with purpose starts with remembering whose church it actually is. You are not building a kingdom. You are serving in one. Paul told Timothy to take what he had heard and entrust it to faithful men who would be able to teach others also (2 Timothy 2:2). That is four generations of disciple-making in one verse, and it is the difference between a church that grows and a church that multiplies. Planting new churches with purpose means planting churches that plant churches. Numbers alone do not tell you if a church is healthy. Reproduction does.
