Who's actually running the show in your life?

You can answer that question with your words, but your life will answer it for you:

Your love for others (or your indifference)
Your obedience (or your excuses)
Your confidence in prayer (or your distance from God)

John has spent five chapters proving the same point over and over: what's on the throne of your life will show up in how you live. Not in what you claim. Not in what you post. In what you actually do, day after day.

So ask yourself honestly: is God running the show? Or are you?

How do you know if you're actually a child of God?

The apostle John doesn't leave it up to feelings, opinions, or how long you've warmed a church pew. He gives you evidence.

You love God and keep His commandments. You believe in Jesus. Not just about Him, but in Him. You have Him in you.

That's not a checklist to earn salvation. That's what salvation actually looks like from the outside.

"He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." (1 John 5:12)

John wrote this so you could know: not wonder, not worry, not white-knuckle your way through doubt. But knowing starts with honest self-examination.

You can't hate another Christian and love God.

That's not a suggestion. That's not a nice idea. That's the test.

This Sunday, Pastor Tim preaches "Love: The Christian Manifesto" from 1 John 4:7-21.

"If someone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also." (1 John 4:20-21)

It's easy to call yourself a Christian. It's harder to actually be one. Love isn't a feeling you wait on. It's a command you obey.

If your faith isn't showing up in how you treat the people around you, it's worth asking what you actually believe.
