YOUR CALENDAR IS QUIETLY SORTING PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE

Every emergency room runs on triage, which is a funny way of saying they sort in a hurry. Someone gets care immediately, someone else waits, and the consequences of getting that call wrong are really big.

In our hurry, we sort everyone around us, whether they're worth our time or not, whether we realize it or not. Think about the person you gave the three-minute version of yourself to this week.

Nobody handed us those categories on purpose. We absorbed them as unchecked training from the curriculum of our culture, and now who's valuable and who isn't are the categories we use on people.

Our schedules and our rhythms of life can quietly reflect a belief that we can be in a hurry without judging people unkindly.

James 2 makes it clear: hurry is a verdict all by itself. When we move as fast as we're being trained to move, we're already making judgments, and becoming unhurried friends starts with owning that.
