Welcome, I have created this group so that we have a place to provide constructive and respectful input on the cemetery, as well as, answer questions regarding the history and graves. The cemetery is run by the Menard Cemetery Association which was organized in 1928. The Association has a seven member board which is responsible for the operation of the cemetery. The purpose of the cemetery (with o
versight from the Board) is to: Provide a public burying ground for the City of Menard and the surrounding county, to own, lease and hold land for said purposes, to lay out said lands in burial plats, to lease or sell said burial plats or burial lots or to dispose of them by gift or otherwise, to provide for necessary fencing, buildings and other improvements necessary to the conducting of said public cemetery and to provide for the beautifying of said burial grounds, adjacent to the City of Menard in Menard County, Texas, and to do any and all things and to have such rights and privileges which are expressly or by implication conferred by the State of Texas upon a Corporation created under Article 1302 of the Revised Statutes of said State of Texas. The original incorporation was set for a term of 50 years, but has since been revised to “perpetual”. There also exists a Menard Cemetery Perpetual Trust. The Menard Cemetery Trust was created in 1975 for perpetual care. The Trust holds the monies paid as Trust dues. The Trust Corpus cannot be spent, but the interest or other income earned by the Trust may be used for the purposes stated above. The current earnings are negligible due to current low interest rates. We are currently working on the ability to fundraise through this page in order to fund repairs, site improvement projects, land cleaning and other projects as determined by the board and families/members of the cemetery moving forward. We look forward to introducing this capability in the very near future as we grow and expand our reach through technology and social media. Cordially,
Jamie Jacoby, President, Menard Cemetery Association
