I am an avid outdoorsman, I enjoy hunting, fishing and spending time in the woods. I learned as a young boy in the Mississippi woods, how to survive in the wild. I can run a trot line and skin a deer. I can cook a meal from scavenging in the woods. One of the many lessons, I was taught, was how to blood-trail wounded game.
Following a blood-trail can be exciting because at times it is the only thing that connects us to the animal that gave its life for us. If we lose the blood-trail, we can easily lose the game. If you get off the blood-trail, it can cause you to waste time. If you get in a hurry while blood-trailing game, you can easily lose your way and have to start over. At times the trail is hard to follow and requires extra work, other times it is easy to see. Sometimes the bloodtrail can take you through briars, creeks and areas that man should never go, but it always leads you to the prize.
In our faith, Jesus left us a blood-trail. When we lose sight of it, we can get lost. When we get in a hurry, we sometimes have to start over. When we want to do things our way and not pay attention to the trail that Jesus left for us, we find struggles and trials. When we stay on the blood trail, even though the thickets and briars of life tear at us and tangle us up, we make progress toward the prize.
The bloodtrail leads to the lamb that gave his life for us. This bloodtrail leads right to the foot of the cross.
Stay on the bloodtrail....
