It is so exciting what is happening in PW of the Mid-South.
On March 5, 2022, PW held the Clergywomen's Retreat at the Cloisters, formerly LaGrange Presbyterian Church. Two years ago, we invited the Clergywomen of the Mid-South to a wine and cheese gathering and asked about an article in Horizons
Magazine pertaining to the glass ceiling. We heard their voices, and the next morning, we started working on a retreat. Because of COVID, it has taken us two years to hold the retreat in person.
The session was entitled “Best Practices: Everyday Sexism and Preparedness” with the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Hinson-Hasty leading. As I sat and heard facts and stories, I can say without a doubt, sexism is alive and well. I know that we and PW can change that. I know what an impact Clergywomen have had on me, not only because I have a daughter who is a minister, but also having had clergywomen nurture and help me. After hearing their stories, I know that I have been guilty as well. Have you ever told your minister you didn’t like her hair, her clothes, the color she was wearing, or that she needed to dye her hair? Or much worse? Why do we feel we have that right? Have you checked her salary and benefits to make sure they are in line with other ministers? How many of us have wanted a
clergywoman as our main minister? Presbyterian Women in the pews must stand up for our clergywomen as we have always stood for God’s rightness. Clergywoman have asked PW to have a program on sabbatical leave. Our clergy have a very intense job. They are with us in good times and crises. They need time
to recharge, as we all do. So, think about the importance of offering a sabbatical for all clergy. It has been a long time since PW has been able to meet in person. Zoom has been great for keeping in touch, but it doesn’t take the place of in person fellowship. I
miss gathering, seeing people, exchanging ideas, and doing God’s work together. On April 2, 2022, we will have our spring gathering at First Presbyterian, Jackson in person. I am excited to be able to be with you. I hope to see you there. May God be with you till we meet again.

The Thank Offering of Presbyterian Women
Eliza Clokey of Springfield, Ohio, planted the seed for the Thank Offering in 1888 when she urged each woman to give one dollar over and above her usual contribution to the Women’s General Missionary Society of the United Presbyterian Church of North America. Since then, faithful givers have responded to Eliza’s call to give a “thank offering to her Lord.” Over the last 33 years, Presbyterian Women has granted nearly $27 million to more than 1,600 different projects at home and around the world through the PW Thank Offering.

In 2021 the Creative Ministries Offering Committee of Presbyterian Women reviewed 29 Thank Offering applications and selected 12 projects for funding. Nine of the projects serve people in the United States and three are international. In keeping with the Thank Offering tradition, more than 40 percent of the selected projects are related to health ministries.

For more information on the 2021 Thank Offering recipients, read the Summer 2021 issue of Horizons magazine or go to www.presbyterianwomen.org/thank.
