Tomorrow morning construction starts on the MERCI Barn.
It was has been a journey of testing from God whether we trust in his timing or not. We are grateful for His provision and that at just the right time all road blocks were cleared.
Thank you to all who have been praying this past year and those who came out tonight and prayed with us over the space of the new addition.

Proverbs 22:17-18 NLT
“Listen to the words of the wise; apply your heart to my instruction. For it is good to keep these sayings in your heart and always ready on your lips.”

What struck me were the last five words of this Proverb “always ready on your lips.” Ever think about this? What words fly out of your mouth before you even have a moment to think on them?

As our lives revolve around busy days - working, running errands, driving children to school and activities - it is so easy to become impatient, overwhelmed - biting words so quickly flow from our lips.

Think about being in traffic and someone cuts you off.

Your husband is sitting in the recliner with the kids running wild while you are trying to get dinner on the table?

Again, your wife is late to get out the door?

Bob and I often say we were “spring loaded” to make insensitive remarks - hurtful words were on the tip of our tongues.

What if we were diligent in regularly reading and meditating on God’s Word, asking the Holy Spirit to temper our responses? We read in Ps. 119:11 “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

Asking God to help us practice “holding our tongues” will certainly keep us from sinning, keeping peace and calm in our marriages and homes.

One day our trained lips might spout out words like “honey, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

While this verse does not directly speak about marriage, all married couples would benefit from spending time reflecting if this principle is evident in their relationship. For quick context, Jesus is delivering the Sermon on the Mount. He has discussed prayer, fasting, laying up treasure in heaven, and not being anxious about anything. He explains how the Father takes care of the birds and flowers so well and states our value is even greater than those. Since the Father loves us so much, we need only to seek first his kingdom, seek first his ways, seek him first through such practices as prayer and fasting and he will provide all that we need.

Jesus had stated in the Lord’s Prayer “Give us this day our daily bread.” Lord, give us today what we need for today. As a couple, when life comes your way whether big or small issues, do you seek first his kingdom? Do you spend time together in prayer? When you are in conflict with one another, do you independently consider the Lord and how he may want you to respond to each other? When a husband and wife are together seeking first the kingdom of God they are better able to edify each other, witness to those around them, and have increased overall intimacy with each other and the Lord.
