Due to illness, Pádraig Ó Tuama is no longer able to join us for this year’s Lenten Preaching Series. We hold him in our prayers and wish him a swift recovery.

We are grateful that Barbara Brown Taylor will remain with us an extra day to preach on Thursday, March 26, offering a reflection drawn from one of her most beloved themes. We are truly excited for this unexpected gift and the opportunity to hear again her wise and generous voice.

Barbara will also still be in conversation with Scott Walters on Wednesday evening as part of our Dialogue live podcast recording. We look forward to gathering for these meaningful moments in the days ahead.

An update for next week’s Lenten Preaching Series:

Due to illness, Marie Howe is no longer able to be with us. We keep her in our prayers and wish her a full recovery.

We are honored to welcome Dr. Mitzi Minor, Professor at Memphis Theological Seminary, as our guest preacher next Friday, March 27.

At a time when Memphis Theological Seminary has announced its closing, Dr. Minor brings a voice shaped by years of faithful teaching, theological reflection, and formation. This will be a meaningful and timely word for our community.

We hope you will join us for this final day of preaching and Waffle Shop!

Join us this week for the Lenten Preaching Series at Calvary Episcopal Church as we welcome three compelling voices exploring faith, justice, and community:

On Wednesday, March 18, at 12:05 p.m., hear from the Rev. Dr. Heber Brown III—pastor, author, and founder of The Black Church Food Security Network—whose work advances food justice and economic equity across the country.

That evening at 6:15 p.m., come for Dialogue: The Lenten Preaching Series Podcast, an in-person conversation featuring Dr. Brown and Memphis leader Roshun Austin, President & CEO of The Works, Inc..

On Thursday, March 19, at 12:05 p.m., Austin continues the conversation in person, sharing how faith and justice shape her work in affordable housing, food access, and community development here in Memphis.

We conclude this week on Friday, March 20, at 12:05 p.m. with Fr. Ben Bradshaw of St. Michael Catholic Church, whose ministry blends theology and hospitality, bringing people together through shared meals and meaningful connections.

Come be inspired by voices calling us to live out our faith in tangible ways.

Several years ago, a mom friend of mine mentioned they were eating lunch at the Waffle Shop. I corrected her and said, “Do you mean Waffle House?” She shook her head nope. She really did mean Waffle Shop. Hhhmmm. I was intrigued. Even more so when she continued telling me it’s in the basement of a church and only open during Lent. Say what? A hidden, pop-up restaurant in a foodie city? Sign me up!
