Buddhist Community of Memphis and Vicinity Inc (also known as Quan Âm Monastery and Tu Viện Quan Âm) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization operating as a public charity that aims to improve the quality of life for the community and beyond. Quan Am Monastery was established in April 2002 by Venerable Thích Nguyên Tánh and the unofficial Vietnamese Buddhist community of Memphis, with the support of

many people living across America. Originally, it was built chiefly as a gathering and place of worship for the Vietnamese people living in the Greater Memphis. However, as Quan Am Monastery became more widely known, the mission of the Sangha (community of monks and nuns at the Monastery) has extended to preserving and developing the Vietnamese Buddhist culture in America. It now serves as a place for everyone from all walks of life to come and learn more about Buddhism as well as to practice chanting and meditation.
