Subject: Important Winter Weather Travel Safety Tips
Dear Friends,
Greetings from the desk of Pastor Tyler. As we all know, the weather in Memphis has turned cold, and conditions are expected to worsen.
I wanted to share some crucial Winter Weather Safe Travel Tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to help keep you safe this season:
Before heading out, always check weather conditions and sign up for emergency alerts. Dress warmly with durable shoes and a weatherproof coat. Prepare an emergency kit with jumper cables, tire-puncture kits, maps, blankets, bottled water, and non-perishable snacks.
For drivers: Keep a full gas tank to prevent freezing, check oil and antifreeze levels, and ensure your heater, defroster, and exhaust system work properly. Use winter tires with good tread, and have chains or studs ready if required. Remove all snow and ice from your vehicle and clear your tailpipe before starting.
For cyclists: Perform an A-B-C safety check (air pressure, brakes, chain), fix any issues before riding, equip your bike with front and rear lights plus reflectors, and wear bright clothing to stay visible.
On the road, be aware of slippery conditions, slow down, and maintain safe distancing. Watch out for icy surfaces and overhangs.
Stay safe and warm,
M. L. Tyler
Pastor
