Last weekend, we hosted our first ever Revival of Islamic Academia conference at the Memphis Islamic Center. Alhamdulillah, we had over 350 attendees from all around the country join us for thought-provoking talks by masters in many fields. Here’s a glimpse of what went down!

Imam Wahhaj has been a pioneer for Muslims in America, helping pave the way for Muslims to openly practice their religion and express their identities. He is a globally recognized Islamic Leader with over 40 years of experience in sharing riveting messages that have sparked the minds and souls of thousands.

He founded Masjid At-Taqwa in Brooklyn, New York and coordinated successful efforts to reduce crime in the area, especially through anti-drug patrols in 1988 and by emphasizing significant community outreach.

He will be presenting his story at the *House of Wisdom: A Revival of Islamic Academia Conference* in his talk about finding your role in an Islamic intellectual movement.

We are honoured to introduce our next, highly-esteemed House of Wisdom Conference Speaker: Shaykh Mohammed Amin Kholwadia!

Shaykh Amin is a Muslim scholar, mentor, and the founder of Darul Qasim College, an institute of traditional Islamic higher learning headquartered in Chicago. He is regarded internationally as an expert theologian and an authority in the fields of Islamic philosophy and theosophy.

Shaykh Amin has published and presented extensively in the fields of Islamic Finance, Islamic Bioethics, and Islamic Philosophy!

Alongside his teaching at Darul Qasim to his countless students, Shaykh Amin serves in an advisory capacity to academic think tanks and universities such as the University of Michigan and the University of Chicago, and the Initiative on Islam and Medicine. His advice and instruction have been sought in disciplines ranging from Islamic legal theory to Islamic financial theory, and most notably Islamic bioethics. He has also advised many Muslim schools in the United States on the formulation and ex*****on of an Islamic curriculum.

He will be presenting at the House of Wisdom: A Revival of Islamic Academia Conference about the true purpose of knowledge and the importance of initiating a Muslim intellectual discourse in America.

The House of Wisdom Speaker Series continues! We are so happy to introduce our next guest of honor: Dr. Mohammad Kabir Hassan! Professor Hassan is a Professor of Finance at the University of New Orleans. He currently holds the position of two endowed Chairs and is the winner of the 2016 Islamic Development Bank (IDB) prize in Islamic Banking and Finance. Professor Hassan is a financial economist with consulting, research, and teaching experiences in various subject areas, including Islamic Banking, International Trade, and Development Finance.

His series of degrees include a BA in Mathematics and Economics, a Masters in Economics, and a PhD in Finance. He has also done consulting work for the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, African Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, the Government of Turkey, and several other international entities.

He has published more than 195 papers and has been cited more than 15,000 times. He has presented over 343 research papers at professional conferences around the world and has delivered 131 invited papers/seminars.

The House of Wisdom Speaker Series continues! We are so happy to introduce our next guest of honor: Dr. Mariam Saada! Dr. Saada is a Professor and Expert in Spanish Historical Linguistics. She specializes in Arabic and Islamic historical documents from the 16-17th centuries of the Iberian Peninsula and the 17-18th centuries of Latin America.

Dr. Saada completed her PhD dissertation at UCLA, which analyzed the surviving manuscripts of Muslim Spain. Dr. Saada is incredibly passionate about Islamic Spain and reviving its legacy through translating its written works. She believes that these documents hold both memories of a forgotten and connected past and also moral lessons for understanding bigotry, persecutions, and loss in the United States today.

Furthermore, Dr. Saada spends a significant amount of time connecting the history of Islamic Spain to the story of Latino Muslims. She argues that the history of Islamic Spain is intentionally forgotten and systematically covered up by European institutions to fuel negative attitudes toward Spain’s Islamic heritage.

She will be presenting at the House of Wisdom: A Revival of Islamic Academia Conference in Memphis, TN about the Intellectual Legacy of Muslim Spain as well as the work that she is doing to preserve Muslim history.

The House of Wisdom Speaker Series now goes international! We are so happy to introduce our next guest of honor: Dr. Sharif Kaf Al-Ghazal! Dr. Ghazal is an United Kingdom-based Plastic, Reconstructive & Hand Surgeon.

Born in Syria, Dr. Ghazal graduated from Damascus University Medical School and completed his training in Plastic Surgery in Ireland and England. Over time, Dr. Ghazal grew incredibly passionate about Islamic Medicine and the medical miracles of the Quran, leading him to began authoring multiple works on the subject.

He is now a leading international expert on Islamic Medical Ethics and History as well as an honorary lecture at multiple institutions around the world. He is one of the founders and executive members of the International Society for History of Islamic Medicine (ISHIM) and one of the Editors of the ISHIM Journal. He is also a member of the scientific editorial board of the Arab Physician Journal, the official journal of the Arab Physicians Union in Europe.

He will be presenting at the House of Wisdom: A Revival of Islamic Academia Conference in Memphis, TN about the Islamic intellectual legacy in Medicine and Surgery.

For out next House of Wisdom Conference speaker, we’d like to introduce: Dr. Aycha Tammour!
Dr. Tammour is an astrophysicist who currently works as a Senior Data Scientist. She received her PhD in Astronomy in 2016 from the University of Western Ontario, where she studied active galactic nuclei, focusing mostly on Quasars. She also completed her Masters in Physics at Minnesota State University as a Fulbright scholar.

She is very experienced in employing machine learning techniques in various domains such as time series analysis and natural language processing (NLP). She has also spent significant time studying Aqeedah, Usul, and Fiqh with Islamic Scholars.

We are very pleased to introduce our next guest of honor at the 2023 House of Wisdom Conference: Dr Abdullah bin Hamid Ali!

Dr. Ali is a scholar of Islamic law with field specialties in Islamic Theology as well as Race and Blackness Studies in Muslim History. As an Associate Professor at Zaytuna College and Founder of The Lamppost Education Initiative, Dr. Ali’s research interests include the interconnection between law and identity formation, comparative Islamic law, and Islam’s role in the modern world.

He received his BA from the esteemed Al-Qarawiyyin University in Fez, Morocco. He received both his MA and PhD from the Graduate Theological Union.

He will be presenting at the House of Wisdom: A Revival of Islamic Academia Conference about the roles/responsibilities of American Muslims in an Islamic intellectual revival.
