The Taste of Melrose Park is a major annual community and food festival held in Melrose Park, Illinois, and organized by the Village of Melrose Park. It is a long-standing local tradition.
The festival's main idea is special: families and Melrose Park residents prepare and sell their own specialties, including foods from a variety of cultural traditions. In addition to the food, the festival features free music and entertainment, family activities, and a variety of other booths. One distinctive feature of the event is that food portions are offered at very affordable prices.
This year, the Taste of Melrose Park is taking place this weekend, from September 4 to 6, 2026. The Scalabrinian Sisters, with support from the Guild Members, are participating in the event by offering sfingi, a traditional Sicilian fried pastry popular at Italian and Italian-American celebrations.

El Taste of Melrose Park es una gran fiesta comunitaria y gastronómica anual de Melrose Park, Illinois, organizada por el Village. Es una tradición local de muchos años.
La idea principal es muy bonita: familias y residentes de Melrose Park preparan y venden sus propias especialidades, incluidas comidas de diversas tradiciones culturales. Además de la comida, hay música y espectáculos gratuitos, actividades familiares y otros puestos. Una característica del evento es mantener los precios de las porciones bastante accesibles.
Y justamente se está celebrando este fin de semana, del 4 al 6 de septiembre de 2026. Las Hermanas Scalabrinianas, con el apoyo de Guild Members, participan de este evento con el Sfingi, un dulce frito tradicional siciliano, muy común en fiestas italianas y siciliano-americanas.

Nel 1901 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐢𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐢 attraversò l’Atlantico per raggiungere gli emigranti italiani negli Stati Uniti. In cento giorni visitò 𝟐𝟐 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐚̀, incontrò comunità e missionari e arrivò fino alla Casa Bianca, dove difese davanti al presidente Theodore Roosevelt la dignità dei migranti.

Non fu un semplice viaggio, ma un vero «𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨 𝐢𝐥 𝐬𝐮𝐨 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐨»: un cammino fatto di incontri, ascolto e vicinanza alle persone emigrate.

En 1901, 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐮𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐢 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐳𝐨́ 𝐞𝐥 𝐀𝐭𝐥𝐚́𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐨 para encontrarse con los emigrantes italianos en Estados Unidos. Durante cien días visitó 𝟐𝟐 𝐜𝐢𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬, se reunió con comunidades y misioneros y llegó hasta la Casa Blanca, donde defendió ante el presidente Theodore Roosevelt la dignidad de los migrantes.

In 1901, 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐢 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 to reach Italian emigrants in the United States. Over the course of one hundred days, he visited 𝟐𝟐 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, met communities and missionaries, and made his way to the White House, where he defended the dignity of migrants before President Theodore Roosevelt.
It was not simply a journey, but a true “𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞”: a journey marked by encounters, listening, and closeness to migrants.
