Show and Tell
By: Margaret Michel

I remember “Show and Tell” in primary school. To sharpen our speaking and presentation skills, each student had to decide on an object to speak about in front of the class. We weren’t supposed to use our words alone; we had to provide actual evidence or give a demonstration of the subject matter.

How I dreaded Show and Tell! I had to rummage for topics that would interest my listeners and then find artifacts to support my delivery.

However, frustration turned to anticipation — an opportunity to look forward to — when I latched onto a topic that I was excited about. I became oblivious to the audience’s staring eyes when I got lost talking about something that actually interested me.

Even in my adulthood, if I happen upon a terrific sale or delectable eatery, I just cannot keep the discovery to myself. I must tell someone! When I am excited about something, I can’t wait to talk about it. I can hardly sit still until I have spread the news to my friends or anyone who will hear. I imagine that the natural outgrowth of the longing plea, “Oh, give thanks to the Lord,” is to, “Make what He has done known among the peoples.” Today, why not Show and Tell God’s goodness?

I don’t want to ever feel that way again.
By: Darla Noble

My four year-old granddaughter, Laney, loves to play hide-n-seek. She’s really good at it, too. She finds some great hiding places and stays as still as a statue waiting to outwit the seeker. One day when she and her mom were playing the game, Laney hid under the couch. Her mom looked and looked but couldn’t find her. She started calling Laney’s name but Laney didn’t budge.

Soon, panic set in. Had Laney gone outside and something happened to her? Had she hidden someplace she shouldn’t have and was suffocating?

Laney could hear the panic in her momma’s voice, so she wiggled her way out and said, “Don’t worry Mommy, I know where I am.”

Sobbing with relief, her mother held Laney close. “From now on,” she said, “when Mommy calls, Laney needs to come out right away because I don’t ever want to feel that way again.”

Jesus knows how Laney’s mother felt that day. He feels that way about every person who doesn’t know the way to eternity in heaven. He worries that the lost ones won’t respond to His voice in time to be saved. But the great news is that He doesn’t have to feel this way about you when you follow Him in truth, obeying Him in all things.

Trust God’s Promises
By: Pastor Ken and Joyverse

The Bible contains hundreds of promises from God to humanity. Some of them are given to a particular person at a particular moment in time. To be fully understood, they must be studied in the context in which they were given.

But many others are broad promises that our Heavenly Father makes to His beloved children. Imagine: the Creator God who made everything loves you so much that He has declared some fundamental truths. If you keep His commands, He keeps His promises!

When you face difficult moments, pay special attention to God’s promises to His children. To those who confess their sins, He promises to be faithful and forgiving (1 John 1:9). He promises strength and vigor to those who hope in Him (Isaiah 40:31). He promises that those who mourn will be comforted (Matthew 5:4). God’s promises are gifts that overflow from His loving heart.

So be patient. Endure life’s challenges with the full assurance that God intends to keep every single one of His promises recorded in the Bible. Draw near to God and He promises to draw near to you (James 4:8).

Yours for the taking (He gives wisdom to those who ask for it)

By: Beatrice Jean-Baptiste

What would you do to escape death? Daniel prayed and asked God for wisdom. While in Babylonian exile, Daniel heard the startling decree that all wise men, which included him, would be executed the next day because no one could tell King Nebuchadnezzar what he dreamt the night before. Daniel was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

He needed answers that only God could give, so he did what he knew best: he prayed. He needed God’s wisdom to get through the trials that were staring him in the face. And guess what? God miraculously answered! He revealed to Daniel the king’s dream. As a result, many lives were spared, and God was glorified.

That day, Daniel praised God with a prayer of thanksgiving. He was grateful for the wisdom and power God provided. How about you? Are you feeling powerless? Do you need wisdom from on high?

There’s good news for you, friend. God has a promise with your name on it. In James 1:5-6, He promises to give you wisdom with no strings attached, all you have to do is ask and it’s yours. Wisdom is a gift from God. Just as He gave it to Daniel when he needed it most, it’s yours for the taking.
