Core Beliefs of Dallas Christian Church
JESUS CHRIST
We believe Jesus to be–
-The eternal Word who with God "in the beginning"(John 1:1)
-The Creator of all that exists (John 1:3; Col. 1:15-17)
-The only source of salvation (Acts 4:12)
-God's final revelation to us (Heb. 1:1,2)
-The atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 2:2: Heb. 9:12)
THE SCRIPTURES
We believe the Scriptures are:
-The inspired
Word of God (2 Pt. 1:20; 2 Tim. 3:16)
-Without error as they were originally written.
-The final word on what we are to accept as the truth of God; the sole authority for faith and practice (Rom. 4:3; Gal. 4:3; Matt. 7:24; 24:35)
THE CHURCH
We believe the Church:
-Was established by Jesus Christ (Matt. 16:18)
-Had been central to God's eternal plan from the beginning (Eph. 3:8–11)
-Exists for God's glory (Eph. 3:21)
-Is the body of Christ here on earth (Eph. 1:22)
-Is made up of those who have been baptized into Jesus Christ (Acts 2:47)
SALVATION
We believe:
-That the only source of salvation is through Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12)
-That salvation is by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8)
-That it is the gift of God to all who, in obedience to Jesus, are baptized for the remission of their sins. (Matt. 28:19; Mk. 16:15–16; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16; Rom. 6:4; Gal. 3:26–27; 1 Peter 3:21)
Because of the meaning of the word "baptizo" (Greek for 'to immerse, plunge, or dip) and because of the New Testament description of baptism (Rom. 6:4), we practice baptism by immersion. THE LORD'S SUPPER
-As baptism for the remission of sins is our profession of faith at the beginning of our spiritual journey (Gal. 3:26–27), even so, the participation in the Lord's Supper is our profession of faith throughout our spiritual journey (1 Cor. 11:26).
-We observe the Lord's Supper each Sunday because the first Christians, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and apostles, "continued steadfastly in the breaking of bread" (Acts 2:42). The Lord's Supper, the breaking of bread, appears to be the purpose of their coming together (Acts 20:7).
