Sisters of Divine Providence, Melbourne, Kentucky

Sisters of Divine Providence, Melbourne, Kentucky The Sisters of Divine Providence in Melbourne, KY are a Catholic community of vowed women religious.

As an itinerant preacher who traveled the countryside of France, Fr. Jean Martin Moye was struck by the poverty and the lack of education especially among girls. From this experience came his inspiration to train young women of the city of Metz in faith and in school subjects. He then sent them to the poor villages he had passed through. The first three young women set out for three different haml

ets on January 14, 1762. This is the foundation day of the Sisters of Divine Providence. From those beginnings the congregation has grown and flourished. Three sisters came to Melbourne, KY in 1889, later sisters went to Madagascar in 1950, and to Ecuador in 1982. No matter our nationality, no matter where and how we minister, our mission remains the same – to witness God’s great love by performing the works of mercy.

Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Yesterday, as part of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the US Bishops consecrated our country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

On this Feast, when we celebrate Jesus Christ's physical heart as the representation of his divine love for humanity, we pray:

for Hearts grateful to be rooted in the loving protection of Providence in and through the Heart of Jesus;

for Hearts pierced by loneliness, physical or emotional suffering, indifference, racial injustice;

for Hearts strengthened by the kindness of others, the gift of loving relationships, the Eucharist;

for Hearts committed to growing in peaceful and fair interactions with others.
