For ordinary beings, when we make an aspiration, we do not have the ability to cause it to come about right away. Thus when we make aspirations, we request the attention and blessing of all buddhas and bodhisattvas to our aspiration in order for our aspiration to be accomplished. When we do that we are empowering our aspiration with the power of the aspirations of all buddhas and bodhisattvas, because they all share the aspiration to benefit beings as much as possible. If our aspiration is in line with that, then it becomes part of their aspiration and therefore is accomplished. When we have completed most of the path and have perfected aspiration, then our aspirations will automatically be accomplished simply through their being ours, but as ordinary beings we empower them through the blessings of buddhas and bodhisattvas. --From "A Teaching on the Tashi Prayer" by Ven.
