π¨ The City of Melbourne officially recognized June as Faith, Family and Responsible Fatherhood Month during Tuesday night's City Council meeting, encouraging citizens to "unite, celebrate and uplift" the fundamental community pillars during the month of Father's Day.
Before presenting the proclamation, Melbourne Mayor Paul Alfrey remarked on its personal significance to him, remembering his grandfather, a Baptist preacher who built Myrtle Baptist Church off Brandywine Lane in Melbourne. Alfrey shared that his childhood experience shaped his appreciation for the role faith plays in the community and noted appreciation for the council's continued practice of opening meetings with an invocation.
βWe talk about whatβs really important, and thatβs family, faith ... and community,β Alfrey said.
