Proverbs 7:4-5
Say to wisdom, You are my sister, and call insight your intimate friend, to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words.

Proverbs 7:24-27
And now, O sons, listen to me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth. Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths, for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng. Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

Proverbs chapter 7 gives us another warning about an immoral person. Please go back and read the entire chapter. Notice that wisdom will hold us back from an adulterous affair. It will help us see through the flattery of the immoral one. The young man in the proverb lacked common sense. He was enticed and seduced by an immoral woman and he never thought twice. First, he was at the wrong place. Verse 8 says he was strolling by her house at twilight. He would not have been tempted if he had not been where she was. Second, she even used religious activity to try and trap him (7:15,16). She made him think that it was fate that placed them together. Wisdom will help us stay at home and see through the lies. Remember that the road of an immoral one is the road to the grave! Let God's wisdom guide us!

Bodies of Clay
By Michael Pickford

ELIPHAZ REMINDS US THAT we dwell in "houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust," (Job 4:19). He isn't speaking of the house our bodies dwell in, but of the bodies our souls reside in. As created humans, we are composed of both body and spirit (soul). The Bible defines death as the point when our spirit departs our body—"For as the body without the spirit is dead…" (James 2:26).

Unless the Lord returns first, each of us faces an inevitable encounter with death. Hebrews 9:27 states, "And as it is appointed for men to die once..." How we live our lives while in these bodies determines our spirit's final destination - heaven or hell. Matthew 25:46 contrasts the outcomes: "And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." Furthermore, John 5:28-29 describe a time when all in their graves will hear the Lord's voice and come forth—those who have done good to a resurrection of life, and the wicked to a resurrection of condemnation, a truth echoed in passages like 1 Peter 1:3-5 and 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9.

Our earthly existence is spent in bodies made of clay, grounded in dust where we're often reminded of our fragility and mortality. Paul likens our physical body to a "tent," expressing a longing to be adorned with a heavenly body, one that is imperishable (2 Corinthians 5:1-4). Heaven is depicted as a realm where decay does not exist, and our spiritual bodies will be "incorruptible," (1 Peter 1:3-5; 1 Corinthians 15:42).

In heaven, there will be no more pain, debilitating diseases, shattered dreams, or tragic accidents. Our clay bodies are vulnerable to ill effects that will be vanquished in eternity! God's faithful children will emerge triumphantly from dust to dignity—from grave to glory! ~

Joshua 24:14-15
Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Serving God was not Joshua's only option. He could have adopted the religious beliefs of his family heritage back in Egypt or the idolatrous religion of his neighbors in the region he now lived in. These options may have looked like easier choices than worshipping God. But Joshua had witnessed God's faithfulness (Joshua 23:14). He was convinced that His Lord was the only true God and that serving Him would bring victory and blessing. Joshua decided to serve God alone. He was determined to teach his entire household to honor his Lord as well. Each of us must decide whom we will serve. There are many things in this world for us to choose from. They will try to distract us from God. We will choose one or the other. If we set our mind wholeheartedly on serving God, it may not be the easier way at the time, but ultimately it will bring great blessing for us and our family. Choose this day whom you will serve!

Psalms 146:1-10
Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD!

Do you have your trust in man or in God? Trust in the Lord! He is the King that will reign forever! He cares about us! He is the only One that can save us! Submit to Him in everything! Praise the Lord!

Mark 14:3-9
And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the l***r, as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. There were some who said to themselves indignantly, Why was the ointment wasted like that? For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor. And they scolded her. But Jesus said, Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.

This woman performed a great act of faith and love for Jesus. She did not do it to impress His disciples or gain public attention. She did not perform any miracles, or preach a sermon. Yet Jesus was so moved by her selfless loyalty that He counted it worthy of remembrance throughout the remainder of history. God is not looking for human greatness but He wants faithfulness and love. Let us do what we can for the Lord.

Psalm 143:1-12 ESV
[1] Hear my prayer, O Lord; give ear to my pleas for mercy! In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness! [2] Enter not into judgment with your servant, for no one living is righteous before you. [3] For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead. [4] Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled. [5] I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands. [6] I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah [7] Answer me quickly, O Lord! My spirit fails! Hide not your face from me, lest I be like those who go down to the pit. [8] Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. [9] Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord! I have fled to you for refuge. [10] Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground! [11] For your name’s sake, O Lord, preserve my life! In your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble! [12] And in your steadfast love you will cut off my enemies, and you will destroy all the adversaries of my soul, for I am your servant.

Evolution In Action?

A recent news article told of a new hybrid shark found in the waters off Australia. Scientists explained that the local Australian black-tip shark has mated with its global counterpart, the common black-tip shark. Jess Morgan, a researcher from the University of Queensland said that this is “very surprising because no one has ever seen shark hybrids before” and “this is not a common occurrence by any stretch of the imagination.” The new discovery is said to be a potential sign that sharks are adapting to cope with ‘climate change.’ Morgan went on to declare that “this is evolution in action.”

Those who deny God’s work in the creation of the universe and everything in it (including all life forms) may think that this delivers a blow against the faith of Bible believers. Nothing could be further from the truth. No one denies that species adapt to their environment. Abundant evidence has been available to prove this long before the news of hybrid sharks was announced. This is called ‘specific evolution’, or evolution within a species. All agree that this happens. What Bible believers deny, and what science has never come close to proving, is the general theory of evolution. What this unproved theory claims is that all life sprang from non-living matter, and that all the myriad of life forms seen on earth today evolved from a single common source.

Notice in this recent shark discovery that the known law of biogenesis (life comes from life, and living things produce after their own kind) is still working. In this case living sharks mated to produce life. The new type of shark was NOT the result of ‘spontaneous generation’ of life from non-living matter – which the general theory of evolution requires. AND, the new life form was still a shark, not a cat, not even a catfish!

Nothing in this new discovery challenges anything we know about God and His marvelous creation.

John 19:25-27
but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, Woman, behold, your son! Then he said to the disciple, Behold, your mother! And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

Jesus understood that His Father's will for Him led to the cross. The cross would mean a painful death for Jesus, and it would also bring suffering to those closest to Him. Jesus' mother, aunt, and closest friends would witness His excruciating death. His disciples would be scattered in terror and confusion. Because of Jesus' obedience, there would also be a cross for each of His disciples. Jesus knew it would be far worse for them if He did not follow His Father's will. Obedience to our Lord's commands will affect others (Luke 14:26). We must not refuse to obey God because we fear the cost to our family will be too great. Do not seek to prevent those you love from taking up the cross God has for them. The cost of disobedience is always far greater! Remember there is no crown without the cross. Look to Jesus and trust God!

Mark 1:21-22
And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching. And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.

The people in Jesus' day had heard other teachers of the Scriptures but what set Jesus apart was that He taught with authority. For many of the scribes, they added to the scriptures their own thoughts and traditions, but Jesus taught them as the living words of God. Whenever we teach, counsel, or share a word of encouragement, we need to be careful that the words we share are indeed from the Lord and not just our own thinking. The power and authority is in the Word of God! God's Word will have the intended effect if we do not change it (Isaiah 55:10,11). Let us trust God and His revealed Word.

Psalm 28:1-7 ESV
[1] To you, O Lord, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit. [2] Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help, when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctuary. [3] Do not drag me off with the wicked, with the workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors while evil is in their hearts. [4] Give to them according to their work and according to the evil of their deeds; give to them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward. [5] Because they do not regard the works of the Lord or the work of his hands, he will tear them down and build them up no more. [6] Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. [7] The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
