The need to look at our lives and thank God for His many blessings is vital to our soul care. Our natural tendency is to look at the disappointments, the missed opportunities, and the struggles in our lives.

When we make this a life habit, we actually develop within ourselves a downward spiral of negativity and train ourselves to view everything from a perspective of lacking.

Paul wrote to the believers in Philippi, "...dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4:8, NLT).

If you're finding yourself having a tough time seeing the things in your life to be thankful for, ask the Spirit of God to help you see with His eyes. This doesn't mean we don't grieve at times, there is a time to grieve. BUT we are not to dwell in our grief.

One way of getting out of our downward spiral is to follow the examples provided to us in God's Word.

"I will thank the LORD because he is just; I will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High (Psalm 7:17, NLT). "

"Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever (Psalm 118:1, NLT)."

If you are having a tough time finding things in your life for which to thank God, then start by thanking God for who He is....and in time you will begin to see things in your life that you can thank God for and Praise Him for with a sincere and grateful heart.
