This week in Sunday school, our kids continued to learn about Jesus’s interactions with those who are unclean. Last week we learned about the Gentile that was demon possessed. This week these are Jewish people who were unclean; reminding us that unclean is a state of the heart and not race.
When the Bible repeats itself, it’s because it’s something very important.
Just like last week, instead of Jesus becoming defiled as he touched this woman and girl, His holiness reverses the flow—uncleanness is overcome, and life is restored. That’s a powerful picture of the new covenant reality: in Christ, holiness is no longer something we guard by separation, but something He brings to us by grace. It’s the same pattern fulfilled ultimately in the gospel—He takes our uncleanness, and we receive His righteousness.
In both accounts, faith is not presented as a work that earns healing, but as the empty hand that receives from Christ. For those of us leading our families, the lesson is clear: we bring our needs, our fears, and our children to Jesus, trusting that whether He grants immediate relief or calls us to wait, He is the sovereign Lord who has conquered sin and death and will one day make all things new.
No Sunday School this week! Plan to join us for lunch after the service as we get to know each other better!
