October is Pastor Appreciation Month - this week we're sharing a little more about our next gen pastor, Pastor Bruce and his wife Carla.

Here is how you can pray for them this morning:

1) Pray for guidance for their son Adam as he graduates and enters a new season.
2) Pray for their family as they navigate this transition and for their marriage to remain strong and continue to grow.
3) Pray for the Next Gen ministry and the impact it continues to have on students and families.

"So the shedding of Jesus' blood on the cross is the only way Bruce goes to heaven. It is the only way that you go to heaven."

Right in the middle of Joshua 3, Pastor Bruce Collier stops to say what the Ark of the Covenant was for. Once a year the priests used it to atone for the sins of the people. Today, he says, we rely on the shed blood of Jesus on the cross. From there he walks the gospel from the garden to the empty tomb: our sin separated us from God, good deeds can't erase it, and Jesus died and rose again to pay for it.

If you have never prayed something like this, today is a good day:
"God, I admit I've sinned. I believe that you died on the cross, Jesus, for my sin. I believe that you died. You were buried and you rose again. The best way I know how, I'm calling on you to save me."

The Gospel
The word "gospel" simply means good news, and the Christian claim is that it is the best news the world has ever heard.

Here is what we believe and why we preach it every week: every human being was created by God and for God, but every one of us has turned away from him. The Bible calls this sin, and it is not simply a matter of making mistakes. It is a fundamental orientation of the human heart away from God and toward ourselves. The consequence of that is real: separation from God, both now and eternally.

But God did not leave us in that condition. In an act of extraordinary love and grace, he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to enter into human history. Jesus lived a perfectly obedient life, fulfilling everything God required. Then he went to the cross, where he bore the full weight of sin and its judgment in the place of everyone who would trust in him. He died. He was buried. And on the third day, he rose from the dead, physically and bodily, vindicating everything he claimed and accomplishing everything he promised.

The resurrection is not a symbol or a metaphor. It is the hinge on which all of history turns. Because Jesus is alive, sin is forgiven, death is defeated, and there is real hope for every person who comes to him in faith.

That faith is not complicated. It is not about being good enough or religious enough. It is simply trusting that what Jesus did is enough, turning from living for yourself, and following him. If you have never done that and you want to know more, we would love to talk with you.
