Nehemiah’s Wall Youth Ministry is an idea I got after speaking 1-on-1 with youth around the state and country. Many youth are in the middle of an unfortunate generation gap. Their faith is constantly being tested by society, media, and many other aspects of life. The heart and soul of the relationship we have with God through Christ is slowly being clobbered to a pulp! Quite frankly, if we simply
sit and wait, Christianity will be non-existent by the time we are our parents’ ages! Though we can put our faith in God, I take the Bible very literally many times, and in it is this verse: “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” (James 2:17 KJV)
Why the wall? Well, think about this: Faith is like a teddy bear to a little kid, something they know is there and comforts them when they’re sad. But as a child grows they need something strong to hold them up and protect them. Nehemiah was given the task to rebuild the wall of the city of God, Jerusalem, after it had been torn/burned down by their enemies. This wall protected the entire city, and in the city’s heart was the temple, the place of worship. This wall had to be rebuilt. In the same way, our youths’ faiths’ are walls that must be rebuilt. While they constantly make efforts to rebuild, the society around them continuously burns them down. We need to be part of this process as the body of Christ. Please, don’t let it seem small to you. This is an effort we must make, a step we must take, and a problem we must solve!
