Weekly Devotional: Peace of Mind - Jesus and Mental Health - Whole and Holy: Getting HELP

On Sunday, we wrapped up our series on Peace of Mind: Jesus and Mental Health. This series covered: breaking the stigma of mental health, anxiety/panic attacks, depression, automatic negative thoughts (ANTs), and last but not least, getting help for yourself. Getting help for yourself is important because you do not live on an island. We all live in a community, and getting help for ourselves is important so our wounds do not bleed on everyone else. Here is the beauty of tackling your MH needs holistically. Jesus can take your wounds and, in His time, turn them into scars. Scars have stories. Your scars would be a reminder of God's faithfulness to you and your willingness to get the help you needed to get well.

If you need help, please let me know. I am aware of MH resources; however, there are many others I do not know about. I have plenty of MH contacts that can aid us in the journey as I walk beside you.

Reflection Questions/Thoughts:

1. Do you need MH resources to help you?
2. If you are hesitant to get help, spend some time identifying why you are not acting on it.
3. Treat mental health like you would physical or spiritual health. It is all connected anyway

Weekly Devotional - Jesus and Mental Health - Mindset Makeover

On Sunday, my friend and former colleague (Autumn Montgomery) delivered a message on A.N.T.s. ANTS are automatic negative thoughts. So often in our thought life, we default to unhealthy thoughts and habits. When we immediately default to a harmful mindset, we are prisoners instead of conquerors in Christ. In the Letter to the Philippians, Paul is writing in chapter 4:8-9 about focusing on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Paul notes that implementing these practices will result in peace. The prior verses to 8-9 also mention joy and peace. Joy and peace co-exist together. If you have peace, you will have joy in the small things of your daily life. If you don't have peace, you will try to find it in some sin or addiction. Our addictions are a replacement for a life with God. Autumn spoke on testing our thoughts against God's Word. I challenge you to start this practice TODAY!

Reflection Thoughts/Questions:

1. Where do you go to find your identity?
2. When your mind is spiraling, what is the first thought you usually have?
3. Develop a practice of testing your thoughts using Scripture.

CREATE Small Group - Week 6: Wednesday was our last session for this series. We discussed Sabbath and the spirit of busyness that we have find ourselves in. We enjoyed a lovely 3 minute Pause and used our favorite art tools.

Small groups will resume in September. Stay tuned!
