Everstand would like to recognize Shannon D. as a 2024 Core Value Award Winner for exemplifying SAFETY! 💙

“During a recent campus emergency, Ms. Shannon was the first responder when a staff member was injured. She took charge of the situation, leading the injured staff to safety and managing the environment by directing others to call 911 and gather necessary supplies. Using her first aid skills, Ms. Shannon stabilized the injured staff member until EMS arrived. Her commitment to safety is evident as she consistently takes the lead in crises, effectively utilizing her communication and TCI skills to de-escalate situations. Ms. Shannon ensures the well-being of both staff and youth, proving to be an invaluable team member. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and capable individual on the ECDD team.”

We enjoy the summers here at Everstand—and not just because of the clear skies and the summer breeze. Summer gives us an opportunity to create unforgettable experiences and adventures for the kids in our care. Whether it’s a trip to the amusement park, a movie night, or an evening barbeque, there are so many ways to engage our youth in impactful social experiences!

Did you know that the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed by Congress on July 26th, 1990?

“The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability just as other civil rights laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, s*x, national origin, age, and religion. The ADA guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to enjoy employment opportunities, purchase goods and services, and participate in state and local government programs,” (Source: ada.gov)

Equal rights for all is of the utmost importance, and the ADA helps make that a reality for all people with disabilities. Much like the day the Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence became our Independence Day, the day the ADA was signed is now known and celebrated as National Disability Independence Day.

Everstand works hard to ensure that everyone in their care is treated fairly and equally. Whether the disabilities are visible or invisible, our programs and operating licenses focus on a broad spectrum of accommodations, including but not limited to:

• Providing educational accommodations for youth who need them
• Ensuring that transportation to any necessary appointments isn’t a barrier
• Reducing the stigma surrounding mental health diagnoses
• Making our programs and services as accessible as possible
