Unitarian Universalist Church of the Highlands

Unitarian Universalist Church of the Highlands The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Highlands (UUCH) is a vibrant multigenerational, lay-led congregation. Open minds and free discussion are encouraged

We are an active and growing church, full of passionate and committed members and friends, grounded in the history and heritage of liberal religion . Our shared ministry enlists the whole church family in living out the values we proclaim. At home, at church, and in the greater community, we strive to make a world that is based on mutual understanding and respect. The UUCH provides a welcoming, di

verse community that nurtures each person's life-long spiritual journey, creates a place of peace and celebration and strives for social justice as well as sustainable living. We seek to create lives of integrity, service, and joy. Service begins each Sunday morning at 10:30 AM, from September until June. Religious education and childcare services are provided.

UUCH will not meet during the summer for Sunday services, but events are still happening there! The first event will be on Friday June 12 from 6:00-7:30 pm: Linguistic Gymnastics in Spanish with Maria Salgado. Join us sipping, singing, laughing, and enjoying a little levity as we tune our ears to a different language. Definitely good to boost the neuroplasticity of the cerebral region! Just fun y'all! Light refreshments will be provided.
On Sunday, June 14 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., the Southern Poverty Law Center will present a discussion on the housing crisis in Virginia. For more information, go to www.splcenter.org.

I am proud to join with over 100 faith leaders denouncing political violence and condemning attacks on free speech and the independence of our country's nonprofit organizations. Unitarian Universalist religious tradition upholds values of pluralism and justice and encourages free speech and open discussion from people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.

I join with other people of faith and conscience in calling on all political leaders, including the President and his administration, to unequivocally support freedom of speech and religious liberty, and to ensure that the government does not target individuals and nonprofits for exercising that freedom.

We the people are the democracy; it lives in our commitments to one another, and we make this powerful idea real only when we can live our values fully and without fear of violence or retaliation.

Please join us on Sunday, September 7 at 10:30 a.m., when we meet together to celebrate Water Communion. Bring with you a small bit of water – maybe it’s from a river you went boating on or just from the backyard faucet where your children played in the sprinkler -- to add to our common vessel.
This is our first service after a summer apart, and it honors a broader aspect of community: that we are each on individual journeys, but those journeys merge into one larger adventure that we are all on together.
