At FLC, we will begin the day with an abridged order of worship that culminates in a commissioning prayer. Once we are being sent out for service, there will be a variety of service projects that you can choose from.

On September 6, we will gather for worship downstairs in our Fireside Room for “Breakfast Church,” which will combine a regular worship service (incl. Holy Communion) with enjoying breakfast together. Pr. Carl Hoppman will be our presider. There will also be an opportunity during worship for you to provide feedback to our worship team about our monthly lay-led worship services. From September 6 through October 4, we will be joining a growing number of churches around the world that observe this time as “Season of Creation.” This year, the Season of Creation will focus on God’s life-giving gift of water.

RWANDA DELEGATION
On September 1, Pastor Gabi will be travelling to Rwanda, Africa, to attend the consecration of Rev. Prince Atupenda Kalisa as bishop of the Lutheran Church of Rwanda (LCR). She will be part of a delegation that includes our Sierra Pacific Synod Bishop Jeff Johnson, two other members of the Rwanda companionship team, Sue Hertless and Re. Sara Wilson, ELCA Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry, Bp. Curry’s daughter, Rev. Shemiah Curry, and ELCA director of justice and Service, Rev. Khader El-Yateem. Details of the journey are still being worked out.

Pastor Gabi’s first day back in the church office will be Tuesday, September 15.

On August 13th, Germans commemorated the 65th anniversary of the building of the wall that surrounded Pr. Gabi's hometown of (West) Berlin.

Our worship service will blend original footage from the wall’s 28-year history (1961-1989) with Scripture readings, music, and prayers, and litanies. Our goal is to imagine a world without walls – walls that we build around us individually, invisible walls between groups of people, and real, material walls that separate geographic areas. We will worship in the spirit of Jesus who modeled to us in his earthly ministry a life of solidarity that transcends all human-made divisions. And we will worship in the name of Jesus who “himself is our peace” and who “destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility” between Jews and Gentiles and all people (Ephesians 2:14).

After worship, all are invited to the Bennett home for a BBQ. Bring a side dish to share and swim clothes!
