McCoy Cememtery

McCoy Cememtery The first acre was donated by Mr. McCoy on June 2, 1879. The oldest grave marked is 1852.

In September of 1923 it was agreed at a meeting to change the name from Dry Creek or Buffalo Creek Cemetery to McCoy Cemetery since that's what people called it.

A friendly reminder to please have your memorials picked up before this Thursday. The committee will be heading out to remove them so they are out of the mowers way. Thank you!

Did you know...McCoy Cemetery dates back as far as 1852 and unlike most cemeteries is not associated with any church or organization. We rely totally on the generosity of donations and the generous time and hard work of volunteers.

With the upcoming Memorial Day holiday the Cemetery Board would kindly requests that all flowers and ornaments be removed or placed as close to the headstone as possible by the middle of May. Any items remaining after this time will be respectfully removed by the cemetery board. This effort helps maintain the beauty our little cemetery and ensures Osborn Lawn Care & Mower Repair has the space needed to care for the area properly and efficiently. You may begin decorating again the following week.

In 2004 the Tilden Citizen received a letter from Mildred "Mid" (Wieting) Dornan from Point Richmond, CA asking if there was any club, organization, or person willing to pursue a 'directional marker' project that she would be willing to fund that points the way to the McCoy Cemetery. The Citizen gave the committee the letter and we found it amongst our paper work a month ago. We took it to our annual meeting and we all agreed we should pursue this project. Terry Sparr took over the project and had the sign made by 319 Graphics & T's out of Neligh who graciously donated it to the cemetery. The sign will be installed very soon by the road department. Sadly Ms. Dornan passed away in 2019.
