In the face of criticism and opposition, Paul offers a defense not only of his ministry but also of the gospel he proclaimed. He points to three compelling evidences of its authenticity: God’s sovereign leading in bringing him to Thessalonica, the sincerity and integrity with which he ministered among them, and the example of godly conduct demonstrated by him and his companions. Through these things, Paul reminds us that the truth of the gospel is revealed not only in what is preached, but also in how it is lived.
