St. Monica knew the power of persistent prayer. For years, she prayed faithfully for the conversion of her son, St. Augustine, never giving up hope that God was at work in his life.

Her story is a beautiful reminder to keep praying for those we love, even when we cannot yet see the answer. God hears the prayers offered with faith, patience and love.

Today, we especially remember parents and grandparents who faithfully pray for their children and families.

In the midst of busy schedules, crowded streets and the anonymity that can come with urban life, we are called to be witnesses of Christ's love. A simple invitation, a kind word or a welcoming smile can help build community and lead others closer to God.

Let us pray that in large cities, often marked by loneliness and isolation, people may discover new ways to proclaim the Gospel and create communities rooted in faith, hope and love.
