Last week, we opened our home to some amazing young adults, and we had the best time! We ate, laughed, fellowshipped, and spent some time talking about things they face in today’s world and what God’s Word had to say about it.
We started with a few questions:
—>What does it mean to be set apart?
Most of them had the same answer. Not to be of this world.
—>How do you handle feeling like you don’t fit in?
This one was a bit more challenging. I’ll be honest, I’m not sure how it was answered. For a few seconds it was silent. It definitely got them thinking and it opened up an opportunity for great discussion.
—>What do most people do when they feel like they don’t fit in?
The answer seemed simple and without hesitation and in unison they all said, “Mold to their environment.”
Isn’t that so true? When we feel like we don’t belong, we often change ourselves to fit whatever is around us.
But, one of our young ladies, full of wisdom, said something that really stuck with me. She said, “If you do not fit into that environment, that is probably not where you need to be.” 👊🏻
Chew on that for a while. If you feel like you have to be someone other than yourself, someone you know isn’t the real you, that is not where you belong. This is why it is so important to surround yourself with like minded people. Choose friends that serve you well and help bring you closer to Jesus.
Then we looked at 1 Peter 2:9.
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people…”
CHOSEN, ROYAL, HOLY, PECULIAR
That’s what God says we are. We belong to Him. Sometimes standing out is exactly where God wants us to stand.
We’re so thankful for this ministry. We are thankful they chose to spend their Saturday evening with two “old” people and were comfortable enough to ask the hard questions, open God’s Word and grow together. These young people are such a blessing to us, and we’re grateful for every opportunity to pour into them.
